Rock Band 2: Music Download Question

In the music download section of the game I see the phrase
"Made Famous by"

I know one of the band members of Iron Maiden wrote a version
of "Number of the Beast" before he was in Maiden, but RUSH also
has two "Made Famous by" for "Limelight" and "Working Man".
I have "Moving Pictures" and download the Vault edition of
"Working Man"

Why have the other versions?

DO NOT WANT

The covers are done fairly well IMO. Shouldn't be a deciding factor as most can't tell.

100% depends on the original band. As far as the instrument track very few will be noticeably different, but there are several vocalist whom made the band and tracks of them with a different singer are rather meh.

IN the case of the Rush tunes, the covers were available for download before they got the rights to the master versions... they probably wouldn't have done the covers if they'd had the masters available to begin with. The Vault edition of Working Man is way better than the cover.... but the covers are pretty good when master versions aren't available.

In Rock Band 1, "Tom Sawyer" was a cover, not a master track. In the early days of the Rock Band store, they released "Limelight", but again, as a cover. Much later on, they released "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight" as master tracks.

Honestly, I think that the masters of "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight" should be free/99 cents if you have the cover versions. It's kind of lame that they are charging you full price for songs you already purchased, but they didn't have the masters of until much later.

At least with "Limelight", since it was only DLC, you could "trade-in" your cover version for the master version. With "Tom Sawyer", the best you could do was "trade-in" your "ripped" copy from Rock Band 1 for Rock Band 2 for the master. I think this would be a fair solution instead of...nothing, just pay full price for the master versions!

But for goodness' sake, remove the cover versions from the store already if a master is available!
