I have a chance to buy the first Rock Band bundle for $50 bucks. My friend's brother ordered one from NewEgg and his step mom bought him for his birthday. I know Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 4 is coming out next month and I'm planning on getting GH:4. Is RB1 worth it or should I save the money and put it towards the new games next month?

That's definitely worth it. The game by itself goes new for around $40 I believe. Plus when the second one comes out you're all set for instruments and just have to pay for the game.

Get it, its definitely worth it. Here's what I would do...
Buy $50 bundle, for $5, purchase transfer license to copy 55/58 RB1 songs to hard drive. Ebay rock band 1 for $25-30 this week. Buy RB 2 next sunday.you essentially buy RB2 for half price and have most of the RB1 songs.

The only thing i'm worried about is when I get GH4 i'll have 2 sets of instruments sitting around and thats gonna piss off the wife. I'm getting Rock Band 1 for the PS3, isn't it only coming out next week for the 360?

RockBand 2 is coming out for both. The game (without instruments) is coming out for the Xbox360 next week. The bundle for everybody is coming out next month... around the same time as GH:WT.

The bundle is more than worth it for $50... but then again if you are getting the GH:WT bundle anyway, you could just use the GH instruments and rent the rockband 1 CD and transfer the songs over for $5.

I was thinking of getting it, playing it for a month then selling the instruments on eBay or Craigs List before the release of GH4. But $50 bucks, can't really go wrong.

I'd get it for $50.. I've seen the bundle for the 360 in Wal-Mart for $130 and I've been kinda tempted. I'd probably sink my teeth in if it was lower than $100 as I can do that without feeling bad for spending money on something I won't really use :p.

Holy crap... jump on it. The instruments in RB2 are supposed to be a little bit better, but for $50, the game alone is worth it. I haven't had any problems with the original instruments, though the bass pedal is a PITA to use.

Keep and eye on eBay, the last few auctions i've see a few used ones go for under $100 with S&H included.

The instruments from both games will be compatible with each other.. at least for the xbox360. I don't know if I ever heard anything official regarding this for the PS3 but I have to believe it'd be the same way. The slide thingie on the GH4 guitar might not work in RB, but the guitar will still work.

I'll be buying RB2 this Sunday, and will probably pick up the GH4 instrument pack when it releases, since I like their instruments better. Hell, I'm still banging away on the 360 GH2 guitars...it's time for an upgrade.

I like the look of the GH drums better than RB and the new GH Guitar looks pretty fun with the touch pad.

Ehh I don't like buying things used... I don't trust people to keep them in good shape. I mean if I had the choice between paying $100 used and $130 brand new from Wal-Mart... I'd go with brand new.

For $50, I'd definitely do it. I'm going to pick up RB2 this weekend and maybe the RB2 drum set in a few weeks when I get some more money. I like the layout of the RB drum set better, and the RB drumset can have up to 3 symbols for a total 7 pads, comapred to the 5 on the GH:WT set.

Harmonix said that the extra pads won't have different functions in RB2, but nothing is stopping them in future games. Maybe even GH:WT will detect the extra symbols and display the notes properly.

***UPDATE***
I got the bundle almost 2 weeks ago, wasn't too impressed by the drums so I sold them with the mic for $50 so i'm already back to even. After a week of playing the strum bar on the guitar started sticking when pressing down so I RMAed it and have a new one coming tomorrow that I think i'm just going to sell it along with the game after I transfer them over to the hard drive of course.

The game is fun, I do like it better than GH3, but the instruments seem cheaply made which I guess is the reason for the easy RMA process. I'll be getting GH:WT next month and i'll pick up rock band 2 as well and just port the songs over and use the GH instruments, hopefully they didn't cheapen them this time around.

Yeah, when I got the RB bundle last year the strum broke in 5 minutes and the green button was pushed in and stayed in. RMA'ed and got a new one in 2 days. Still use it. Also picked up the wireless one and both have been hammered to death and are still going strong ( I did pop the whammy spring but replaced it easily). The initial instruments were crap, the replacement ones are much better. I hate the GH guitars, too clakity clak. Too small also. Gonna get the Bass Guitar for RB2 soon as well as the new and improved RB2 guitar. Still gonna use my RB1 drums as they are in great shape.

I agree about the instruments... my strat works fine , but even working i hate it. I use the GH3 LP for playing rock band. Unlike the above poster, I love the clicky strummer and I hate the mushy one. I also hate the feel of the RB guitar in general.

The game though is great, and RB2 is even better, I love it.
