Have you gals/guys bought any inexpensive robotic kits online? If so, where did you get it and how would you rate their service?

I need to get an inexpensive robotics kit or PIC programmer kit for a science fair award. This is coming out of my own pocket, so nothing over $50. Any suggestions?

Any other ideas for a science fair award? I'd like to veer away from the traditional gift card / savings bond award.
