Yeah, the toy is my buddy's, he was an idiot when he got it and threw an optimus prime sticker on it. Gotta scrape that off with some solvent, it's really glued on.

It's Jetfire (Skyfire). Lucky bastard.

Now see if you can find the Gobots, Cykill and Leader One model kits which were patterned off the Cyclone and Alpha Fighter respectively.

Is jetfire the model of the plane from robotech ? I thought it was a VF-11 or something like that ?

FYI (for those clueless), the Jetfire transformer is a ripoff of the Valkyrie from Macross, better known as Robotech in the states. Hence, Jetfire is one of the most sought after transformer for fans of both.

yes, it probably is the transformer. However, I believe they are made from the same mold.

I have had one sitting on my desk for . . . . wow, fifteen years or something. I lost the red armour/jet pack thing, but I have the rifle and the toy itself is in working condition.

That is strange. Based on his color scheme and head style, he definitely looks like the Jetfire Transformer. Hasbro makes transformers. Is this a cheap knockoff? You can check if its made of hard plastic and die-cast metal which is typical of the first gen Transformers.

The majority of his structure is made from hard plastic, there are a few key metal components, joints and the landing gear is metal.

I had one of those - it IS a transformer. AFAIK the leg units are diecast, while the torso/fuselage, head and arms are plastic. Jetfire is the name, and you peeled off a sticker from a genuine transformer.

Several years later I believe Jetfire was replace by a model known as "Skyfire", which was very similar but more boxy (the nose cone was squared off, the leg units lost all curves).

I believe the story is that Jetfire/Skyfire was at one point a decepticon that was "converted" to an autobot somehow.
