Good, bad, ugly? Anybody besides me watching it?
There was a post earlier this month mentioning it but only one person replied, so I'm not sure anybody here even likes Robocop.
Personally I think it's good, but there's a lot of stupid crap in it that detracts from saying it's perfect.
However, the best line I believe came from the second episode. Half a dozen cops have emptied their machine guns at Robocop, merely knocking him around a bit. Then he levels his gun at them and says "I am made of titanium. I don't believe YOU are." Naturally they run.
The biggest issue I have is the lack of much consistency. For example, Robocop can take machine gun bullets and larger weapons, weighs several hundred pounds, yet when somebody jumps him, he falls down. And armor piercing bullets just barely penetrate, yet something like a sledgehammer or a chainsaw causes him difficulty and he gets knocked down and can't get back up as long as they keep beating on him (trying to avoid a spoiler for anybody that might want to try and catch it during the inevitable re-airing). Compare that with the fact that in Robocop 2 he falls from the top of the OCP building, crashes through the street and into the sub-basement thingy, and just climbs out again.
Second biggest thing is Robocop is played by like a 45 year old that looks 55. Robocop should not have grey eyebrows and wrinkles. The guy does a good job in the part, it's just his appearance is off considerably from the ideal. (I think they used an older man because one of the big things is that Robocop is supposed to be nearing obsolescence, so an older actor provides a little subtle feeling to that.)
I do love the way they did the MediaNet thing, which is the OCP run TV, Internet, everything network. They projected from the way things are now to the extreme. Constant ads running in a scrolling bar, along with flashing things in another bar, with the commentators/anchors in the middle of the screen. You can't read the text and pay attention to them at the same time, so it takes today's TV even further, where it really doesn't matter what they're saying (and they do say anything, taking today's news shows to the extreme where getting the story first is all that matters, whether there's any substance or not), they're just hoping you'll buy something.
