Has anyone here dealt much with recruiting firms such as RHT? I'm looking for a part time job in some kind of computer support/network admin role, pretty much what I can find that works with my schedule. They sent me an email saying they would like to meet with me for a position.(found me on monster.com)

I've heard mixed things about recruiting companies, I currently have my associates degree and I'm working towards my bachelors full time at school while doing PC repair part time in a retail environment.

One of my friends got contacted by them, he interviewed with them and they said they had a job lined up for him, he hasn't started yet though and doesn't know the details yet.

Any suggestions on dealing with companies such as this(or not dealing with them).

SUMMARY: Robert Half Technologies GOOD or BAD?

Any advice is appreciated!

I have no experience with any of them other than getting 2 voicemails everyday from these damn recruiters when I put my resume on Monster.com.

Most of them were calling me for jobs that I was either overqualified for or under qualified for. I think these guys just want you to get the job and get their commissions.

I didn't bother returning their calls as it seemed like a waste of time interviewing for jobs I know I wasn't qualified for.

They seemed friendly and of the non-harassing type. But they placed me in interviews I was under qualified for. And no, my resume isn't embellished.

i haven't had a good experience with RHT. I've had a better experience with teksystems. Like the others have states, RHT seemed to just want to put you into any position they had available. Tek did a better job finding the right position that fits your skills/needs. It really depends on the recruiter/account rep though, so YMMV.

I have used both firms for contracts.

As stated above, the relationship that you develop with the people at the lcoal office is the key.

RHT interviewed me for a couple jobs I wasn't qualified for. It was a waste of time mostly. The recruiter I talked to seemed professional enough, so if they have a position that fits you well it shouldn't be a negative experience.

Not for me, I just left tek because the recruiter was an A HOLE! He got mad at me for bringing up valid concerns. So i found another Direct hire position through another company and dropped Tek like a rock.

As far as Staffing companies
Do not give them your bank info (Direct Deposit), or your social until you sign the paperwork for a positron. Protect your identity!

Everytime I refresh my resume on Monster, I get calls from them. I'm looking for a Junior Business Analyst position in Mass, and they'll call me for Senior Business Analyst positions in NH or CT that require 6-8 years experience (I have no experience in the field!).

It makes you wonder if they actually READ the resumes, or just look at the title and send out the emails.

I think your best bet is to make your resume/skills confidentially searchable on Dice.com. I've found that I get a good amount of hits, mostly by principals and not recruiters. The recruiters I DO get have actually been half-decent. I never see RHT anywhere but the big job boards that I associate with spam.

I've always been told not to work with recruiters, though, so ymmv. I've never used one based on that advice.

I used Tek to get my past job, and hated it! I used a Local DFW based company called Q&A and they were awesome! They got me a direct hire and not a contract! She did awesome work!

They keep giving me interviews for jobs that want 5-7 years expeieince. if they actually read my resume, they would see I only have 2 and that i just finished school. I have pretty much said screw all recruiting companies.

got my job in South FL through Tek, but I didn't let them set up an interview I wasn't qualified for. The recruiter was very nice.

I worked with RHT as a on board Salary Professional, basically working short-mid term contracts (2-3 months being the longest)

If you know what your doing, you will have no problem, also do not be afraid to raise your rates, they are making a boat load out of you.

If your in the minneapolis/bloomington office, ask for Darin Boone, tell him Adam sent you.

I stood them up once. They wanted me to come in and interview with them, after which they would try to match my profile with jobs. Considering I already had 2 other job offers, I was not particularly inclined to go. It didn't help that they wanted me to wear a suit to come meet them. I think it was something about the way they said it that bugged me. Actually, I did call them and let them know that I wouldn't be coming in but didn't give any reason - just said that I would reschedule at my convenience

I've worked with contracting companies for over 9 years but work as a regular employee with a large company now. I cannot think of a single reason why I would go back to contracting - even if they offer me more than what I make now. In fact, the last 2 contracting positions were ones that I found myself but had to go through an authorized vendor to get on board

EDIT: When I say I found the jobs myself, I mean I interviewed for the jobs through my contacts, got the job and let the hiring manager pick his favourite vendor to bring me in. You wouldn't believe the nexus between hiring managers and contracting firms - right from sex to graft everything is used :|

So I'm curious about one thing, do your paychecks come from the company that they find for you or from Robert Half Technologies?

RHT will direct deposit your pay.

They can take anywhere from $20-40/hr from the client for themselves over and beyond what they pay you.

I've had bad experiences with them.

Was looking for a job with certain skill sets, and they ended up choosing to send me to a opportunity which only used one of the skill sets I had.

Hell, the interviewer wondered exactly what I was looking for, and I was wondering if I was at the right interview.

BAD BAD BAD match. Needless to say, didn't get the job. Wasn't what I was looking for.

How did they get such a bad match? They didn't take the time to truly understand my skill sets. They see one skillset match (to hell with the rest) and they think they
have the perfect match.

RHT is all about numbers at the end of the day. Find a small, local but well-established agency where the person/people working there have known their clients for a long time and have a good relationship with them.

I actually worked with them through Office Team a few times and had all positive experiences!
