Robert > Bob --- William > Bill --- WTF?

Why are people named Robert and William, called Bob and Bill?

Any other names like this? Why the heck do they do it???

Tim comes from the name Timothy.

But Jim doesn't come from the name Jimothy.

We used to call a kid in middle school Jimothy. It really pissed him off!

That reminds me of the guy walking in a crowd, and sees this guy walking toward him. Dick!!! He yells. There was no response, so as the guy get's closer, he yells Dick!!!! Again, being sure to look at the guy approaching him. Finally the guy goes, &quot;you talking to me&quot;? Is your name Dick, the guy askes? Nope. Well you sure look like one. :Q

How about Steve from Stephen? I used to work with a guy named Stephen. We called him just that... Step Hen.

And there was a Richard.... I always said to him, &quot;You're a nice guy, Richard. Why do they call you Dick?&quot;
