So I was outside working in the garage as I typically do, it was around 1am.
Infrequently I come outside of the garage to take smoke breaks, there's no venilation in the garage.

I went to get a pack of smokes at around 1am after driving to get a pack of smokes. Anyhow, after working in the garage for about 45 min,I decided to call it a night.
As I pulled the garage door shut, I saw someone on our porch and yelled at him. He immediately jumped off the porch and over the fence. Next thing I remember is my glasses flying off.

I scurry for my glasses the moment I realized what was going on. I blacked out (evidently) and when I woke up I saw a dark figure running towards the other entrance to the property.

I am bleeding profusely from the back of my head. I my hand over the wound and run inside yelling to my wife to dial 911.

She couldn't call 911 because they had stolen both of our iPhones. I told her not to come in the bathroom as I wrapped a towel around my head to curb the bleeding. I mean blood is everywhere.

Fortunately, our neighbor directly above us witnessed the whole thing. She indicated that one guy "beat the fuck outta me". I'm guessing that they did this while I was blacked out, because I don't remember but have the bruises to prove it.
Her brother is a cop in our district.
The cops and EMTs were there in under 5 min.

I do everything to stop the blood (along with the EMT) but it won't stop.

Anyway they take me to the closest hospital (within a mile) and stitch me up. They couldn't give me pain medicine until they received blood test results, but they did inject something around the wound to kill the pain.

My wife arrives about 2 hours later, much later than I expected. Not sure if they found prints in the apartment., but they were thorough. And they found the bloody brick that found it's way to the back/top of my head.

At this point, we figured everything was gone forever.

The good news is they eventually retrieved most of the belongings (Wife's laptop, her iPhone, her purse which had her wallet, engagement ring, etc.) and my camera. But they ttook the 4 double AA batteries.Unfortunately they didn't find the 3g iPhone that I received from my wife as a birth day present 9 days ago.

My pain is keeping me awake. They gave me tylenol-codeine 30. It's not quite doing the job.

One funny part is that before I was stitched up, I asked for a nicotine patch. The nurse said "would't you rather smoke"? I was shocked. He said that after I was stitched up I could go outside and smoke, the doctor approved. This is after they gave me Vicodin and a muscle relaxer. I cleaned myself up (best as I could, I looked like an extra in a horror film) and was walking fine. The moment I get to the security desk I feel wobbly. I passed out before I could even make it to the door.

I feel nauseous and realize that it took me 20 minutes to write this post.

Cliffs:
My apartment got robbed while my wife and I were home, my wife wa sleeping, I was 20 paces away in the garage.
I was jumped and beaten after receiving a blow the head with a brick.
It took 20 stitches to sew me up and I have a concussion.
I returned from the hospital about 6 hrs ago.

edit: Talked to my neighbor and he witnessed two guys that were attacking me. I must have blacked out for longer than I thought.

edit: thread updated 6/26

My wife called today letting her know that they had five subjects in custody with a large amount of DNA evidence along with fingerprint matches. My neighbors upstairs will likely be called in to identify the (alleged) thugs.

It would be great to know that not only they're off the streets, but that due justice may be pending.

Being okay is the most important thing to be honest cherrytwist, but where did they "retrive" most of your stuff?

So they found your belongings, but did they actually nab the idiots that could have potentially killed you for a couple grand in electronics and personal belongings?

Hopefully you mend up well with no long term health effects. Also here's to hoping that the emotional side of the assault doesn't bother you and wife for too long.

Because if he did, he could have told the robbers to hang out on the porch while he went and grabbed it.

Geez, that's nuts. There's not many positives, but at least it wasn't worse...

Here's to a speedy recovery and some large object falling on the dipshits who did this.

Hopefully you wont have any major health issues w/ this, that would cost way more than what they can steal

So they were in the apartment your wife was in and she didn't know it?

Were the doors unlocked?

Holy shit man, that's pretty terrible.

I know that whole thing sucked, but look at it this way... you're alive and you got most of your stuff back. Best of luck with your recovery!

DAMN cherrytwist, that fucking sucks! Fuckin hell bro at least you're going to be able to recover though, right? My heart goes out to you.

Anyways, here's to hoping the cops get the bad guys and they get prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Assuming you owned guns and you caught them in your living room, can you just shoot them out right?

Not sure. However if they're about to bludgeon you with a brick... I'd say you're good to go.

Glad to hear you're ok. Do you have renters/homeowners insurance?

Sounds like the wife is ok as well.

Thanks for confirming my theory that iPhone owners are incapable of saying "phone" without an 'i' ;)

Hope you're okay, sounds like you took quite a whack.
