heh, so what to do in the Windy City?
now, I only have 2 days (Sat and Sun, and maybe Monday afternoon) so I can't do everything available, and I know there are a lot to do there.
so realistically I am able to see a couple of museums, dine in four resturants (two dinners, two lunches), and maybe go clubbing (doubtful but possible). I do want to pay a bit more for dinners (like 30-40 bucks. $50 MAX) in exchange for quality food and environment.

!EDIT:
damn, parking for Museum of Science and Industry is TWELVE BUCKS!!! good god, should I park my car somewhere and then take a cab? !

Go to the pizza place cate-corner to the hardrock. I was with 4 friends, 3 voted for hardrock, I wanted this place. They all got burgers, as if t hey couldn't do that at home. We walked by the pizza place and they had the best smelling, most delicious looking pizza ever. And then my friends apoligized.

Stop at Rockwell Gardens, then head west on Madison for the crackhouse architectural tour.

Try Edith's BBQ on Clybourne for some good 'q (if it's still there).

I second the Museum of Science and Industry. It is really worth the time. The Field Museum and Planetarium are close enough to do at the same time.

Also, make sure to walk down Michigan Ave. Lots of cool stores. Lots of eye candy as well.

There are a large number of excellent places to eat in Chicago. What are your tastes?

heh, this will be fun,

K1052: you said Dwight is the place to fill up gas before entering Chicago right?
well, between my place in Springfield, MO and Dwight, IL is 437 miles; that is also coincidentally the highest mileage I ever got from one tank, this would be fun and challenging.

heh, I am gonna re-enact Top Gear's "drive to Scotland and back in one tank" segment. :)

lol

I might not cut it that tight. Bloomington or Pontiac would work as well if you get that kind of mileage from a full tank.

Guess I am just used to my truck which gets about 21mpg on the highway (if I behave).

cater-corner?

how ever you spell it... like, if the Hard Rock is on the corner of an intersection, if you cross either of the streets, then cross the next one... "the opposite corner" of the intersection, if you will...

Get Pizza at Gino's East (which I think moved, so its not really east, anymore), Giordano's, or Edwardo's. Museum of Science and Industy is a must. Navy Pier is ok, if you've never been there before. Blue Man Group is cool, if you've never seen them.

Museum of Science and Industry is very cool, but...

The Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Museum of Natural History are all located within walking distance of each other.

Navy Pier has an IMAX if you haven't seen one yet. Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure is EXCELLENT.

Shopping on the Magnificent Mile (North Michigan Ave) is...I guess some people like it.

Lots of great places to eat. $$$ to $$$$$$$$$

is Field also kinda next to them too? I plan to park there in Field (if availble) and take the cab for the rest of the day until the parking close.

I had a similar trip last fall. I was there for 2 1/2 days and pretty much kept a frantic pace. I managed to see Wrigley Field, Sears Tower, Michigan Ave., Field Museum, Planetarium, Aquarium, Soldier Field, Museum of Science, and the lake front.

For me Wrigley was a must. I didn't get to see a game, but just being there was awesome. Bought a Cubs hat souvenir. I also liked the Sears Tower. If museums are your thing, then all above are excellent. A couple of them were pretty crowded though and weren't open late in the evening so you might plan your trip to do what's open during the day and save eating and Michigan Avenue for the late evening/night.

I hit the Hard Rock Cafe and had Giordano's pizza near the Sears Tower. One of the guides at the tower recommended it and it was awesome! Best pizza I ever ate.

As for parking, expect ~$15+ downtown with a good walk (many blocks) to where you're going. I ventured on the train one day and that was an experience in and of itself. Gets you close, but all sorts of characters on there. I did see transit cops around though, so I'd guess it's fairly safe. Just don't wander too far off the beaten path.

Have fun, good luck, and tell us how it went.
