Gay.

But on another note, are there roads connecting South America now? One of my dreams is to ride down to Chile from here, or maybe do it in a car. I tried google maps but didn't find any.

The Pan-American Highway (French: Route panaméricaine, Spanish: Carretera Panamericana) is a network of roads measuring about 47,958 kilometres (29,800 miles) in total length. Except for an 87 kilometre (54 mi) rainforest break, called the Darién Gap, the road links the mainland nations of the Americas in a connected highway system. According to Guinness World Records, the Pan-American Highway is the world's longest "motorable road".[citation needed] However, because of the Darién Gap, it is not possible to cross between South America and Central America by traditional motor vehicle.

Yea, I know it is kind of hoaky, but this is how GM used to spend their advertising dollars way back when. How many of the car companies today would spend the bucks on an expedition through the jungle with conventional automobiles?

environmental destruction and maybe the prevention of hoof and mouth disease spreading into north and central america

I can speak from experience. It will do at least 90. I cruise the highway at 75 to 80 mph all the time, and still have pleanty of throttle left. If you get the 140hp 4 carb version, i'd say 115 tops. If you're in the 150hp or 180hp factory turbo charged versions, you'll top out just over 120mph, unless you've done modifications.
