I've seen a yellow Baja @ CostCo, weird looking.

Although you can expand the bed, it's just too short to fit anything in there. Unless you have like a 27" TV in box or a fridge standing upright.

I would love it if they would drop a more powerful engine in it :)

Ok, so Ranchero Numero Tres. :)
Perhaps, but the Ranchero, El Camino, and BRAT were all two-door pickups and not quite as boxy as the Baja.
The Baja reminds me more of the Ford Explorer Sport Trac or a scaled down Chevy Avalanche.

And, yes that body cladding is ugly.

Subaru has apparently discovered the ancient Pontiac body cladding burial grounds, and after taking its spoils, glued it all onto the already homely, ducklike body of the Outback wagon
