Road Runner being really, really, really

I can't get pages to open without refreshing them 3 or 4 times, plus AIM and Google Talk repeatedly fail to connect. I tried resetting my modem and router and it hasn't helped any. What's the best site for a speed and ping test for my connection, I'm in the Tampa Bay area if that helps.

Try DSLreports.com yet?

Nope, did try this, which told me I had a 6795 kbps connection, which is about right, its 7 Mbps, but I don't understand why pages would be loading sh!t slow and eventually failing to load 😕

Its been up and down ALL day today in Tampa... As usual...

Worst freaking part is EVERY SINGLE FREAKING NUMBER you use to call them is busy, ALWAYS. I swear, i WISH i could get FIOS right now.

For instance, my local Manatee County line is

(941) 748-1822

It has been a constant busy signal for nearly a month now, i can never get through.

I'm in Hernando County, quite far away from Tampa proper, but the connection still SUCKS. Its so weird that the speed is still up to snuff but its taking me forever to load pages, what gives?

Hillsborough - 813-316-2626 - Busy
Manatee - 941-748-1822 - Busy
Pasco East - 813-377-0000 - Busy
Pasco West - 727-362-1022 - Busy
Polk - 863-327-1009 - Busy
Hernando - 352-848-2563 - Busy

I am sorry, but it is UNEXCUSABLE to let a system get this bad, that you cant even CALL the bastards to find out what's going on. Freaking Brighthouse has an exclusive in my neighborhood for another year too, the bastards...

Aye, it does suck. The only other internet option here is BellSouth DSL, and frankly, that sucks too. I'm calling them Monday super pissed even if this issue is resolved, maybe I'll get bumped to 10 Mbps 😛

At our office in South Tampa, the roadrunner goes down at least once a week. Its insane how crappy they've become lately, kinda depressing since they used to be so good.

Its weird though, AFAIK USF campus uses Road Runner because that's how my DNS was translating on IRC, and it doesn't suck. Also, at my high school in Temple Terrace we have I think a 10 Mbps business connection (small 300 student school) and its not bad either. Road Runner is getting an angry phone call on Monday, I can't get any work OR neffing done :|

"At this time, Tampa Bay customers may be experiencing difficulty connecting to the Internet. Please try resetting your blah blah blah blah"

Stupid recording, I want to speak with a HUMAN.

"Due to unusually high call volume, you may experiecne high wait times. To speak with a customer service representative, please continue to hold. We apologize for the wait."
:music: elevator music :music:
"All of our support specialists are currently assisting other customers, please stay on the line and a specialist will be with you shortly."
:music: resume elevator music :music:

Either I get 10 Mbps free for a year or I'm dropping BHN like its hot, I can live with D* and BellSouth DSL if it means having consistent service.

Oh the irony

"Our high speed internet service just keeps getting better. Our customers now have a choice for speed blah blah blah. With high speed internet, digital phone, and digital cable, life just can't get any easier."

EDIT: Any tips on asking for a bump up in plan? Threaten to switch to D*?

Hehe, got bumped to 10 Mbps AND my bill got lowered 15 bux. It also seems to be back to normal today.

<--- Happy camper 😀

Back in the crapper again tonight...

My 10/1 line tests at; 600k down, 900k up.

LOVELY

Yep - they had a blurb about the 10/09 failure - major switch/router issues.

Aphex - Mine's still rockin - I'm in N. Tampa off of Gunn near Linebaugh..

According to the help.rr.com Network Status pages - All *should* be ok...

*EDIT*

Found this:
Red 10/9/2006 8:11:47 PM TAMPABAY Road Runner is currently experiencing issues with Internet connectivity. Subscribers in the affected area(s) may have no connection to the Internet or latency/slow connectivity. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

My RR in Cincy always has problems for at least a 3day streak out of every month.

It blows. REAL BAD.

Especially because it always seems to happen on the weekends.

I just call and say "yes, I reset the router, modem, and my computer, the router and computer are functioning properly, all of my cables have been tested and my problem still persists."

They insist on doing the "I'm going to send a signal to your modem" junk, even though it never works, and I can tell a tech before he walks in the door what the rating on the connection range/interferance is, and it's always in acceptable range.

Unfortunately, the best option is only for me to wait it out, and I'm convinced that they screw something up and just don't care to deal with it before they go home for the weekend, or they fail to compensate for excessive traffic during the weekends and it forced equipment to crash.
