Now, back to red light rollin'. I always wonder what people are thinking when they're the first car at a red light, and I see them roll up to the white line... then again past the white line... then again up into the crosswalk. What really boggles my mind in regard to this is how the person is always flippin' slow! The person seems really impatient; yet once it's time to go, they're driving Miss Daisy. o_O
Even weirder are the people who like to run red lights. They drive 10 below the speed limit, so they're obviously not in a hurry. The light turns yellow. They just keep going their slow pace, light turns red, and they blow through the red light. wtf? They would have gone through a green or yellow if they drove the speed limit or at least close to the speed limit. If they cared about safety, they would have stopped at the light. If they were in a hurry, they would be driving faster. Screw time and screw safety - they just like the thrill of running red lights.

You should come to Edmonton, Canada. Sign says 100? Let's merge going 60. I'm sure that 18 wheeler will slow down to prevent killing me. Durrrrrrrr

Well, I can kind of understand him, because as I mentioned, I see people slowing down when merging around here often. One of the largest issues is that sometimes people refuse to move over or even leave a gap so people can get in. If the merging party doesn't stop, they're either going to take the upcoming off-ramp or run out of road! This is really the fault of the existing traffic not allowing the mergee (is that a word?) to merge.

The worst part is when both parties get brake happy, and the mergee will brake along with the existing traffic. This happens a lot on a 65MPH road that I take on my way home. Fortunately, that's only during the heavy traffic period between 3:30PM and about 5:30PM, which is why I usually never go home before 6. Anyway, the annoying part is that by both parties braking, they keep getting out of sync with each other and they end up taking longer to merge. This slows all traffic down and the road literally stops to a halt quite often.

I guess what I'm getting at is that while the OP most likely knows that he isn't supposed to slow down, there's a chance that he doesn't have a choice.

EDIT:

I get the feeling that those people just don't pay attention.

Speaking of red lights, I've seen some really impatient people in regard to red lights. A few times, I've seen people get into a turn lane and go through an intersection after the light already turned red. It's not like they can even claim, "it was yellow!" No, it was clearly already red. What makes this seem so strange to me, is that if they would have waited just 5 seconds, they would get a green arrow.

This is one problem I've never encountered, but then again I drive a compact car (Subaru Impreza) that doesn't need a lot of space.

There's one merge around here that is legendary in terms of horribleness. The amount of space to accelerate is extremely short. In my 2010 Corolla, having the pedal to the floor the entire way would only get to about 90km/h when the speed limit is 100. People who know how to drive properly just cut in and force the main traffic on the freeway to slow down. The people who don't know how to drive come to a complete stop. That is incredibly dangerous because now instead of merging at 90 you need to start at 0. There are flowers on the guard rail all year around, so I'm guessing quite a few people have died there.
