Road and Track tests 240sx... 240z progeny or MID-4 progenitor?

Oh and here's another article.

"Why does Nissan even try to create a new Z when they already have the perfect sports car sitting on their own shores?"

Because the Silvia wouldn't look right in a Starbucks parking lot. 😕

I thought the new Silvia and the 350z shared the same chassis? If so, then the 350z is kind of like a Silvia except Japanese automakers seem to think Americans prefer bigger displacement engines over turbocharged four cylinders, especially for touring autos, which is what the 350z would be considered.

I don't know anything about a new Silvia. The one they pictured in that article is the S15, which I thought was current. It doesn't share a chassis with the 350z. The first article, the R&T one, says Nissan didn't put a V6 in the first 240sx for insurance reasons. A V6 will fit in that engine bay.

The hell with the V6... i'm happy with the SR20DET... 😀

That seems like rather fallacious reasoning, Nissan could've easily offered a 6 cylinder engine as an option! I, for one would've loved a v6 or i6 (if it'd fit) in the s14 chassis.

The hell with the SR20DET. Shove the Skylnie RB26DETT in there.

lol... thats what i was thinking. 😕

Rumor has it Nissan is working on an inline 2.8L 6-cylinder engine for a rwd car...the car will have the classic anti-cabforward shape of the 280z and thus the engine will fit behind the front axle mounted transversly (must have a WIDE track!)

that's what I heard...though maybe the engine's an I-4 (makes more sense?)

Still doesn't make much sense.. I guess they are trying to shift the center of gravity rearward.

The RB26DETT would be a bigger problem then benefit for the 240sx. The RB26DETT is AWD so you would also have to do a AWD conversion to get it to mesh correctly (although im not a nissan mechanic so im sure there might be other ways to do the swap, I just know its a severe pain in the butt!). If It were my car id go with a RB25DET, which would save money and generate more power than the SR20DET.

Interesting...where has this rumor been circulating?

Wrong. An engine does not determine whether a car is AWD or RWD or even FWD - it is the transmission and its associated components (i.e. differentials, clutch packs, LSD, ECU, etc).

The chassis and engine layout may come into play though 😛

Edit:
Just read the article. Wow, it's OLD.
If the 240SX gets 53/47 F/R weight distribution, why is so much praise given to the 350Z/G35's "front midship" chassis?
