wait the rnc is in debt 7.1 million? I r confuse.

Helps to read the article...
A top Republican National Committee official is accusing Chairman Michael Steele of failing to report more than $7 million in debt to the Federal Election Commission to make its cash haul look healthier ahead of this year’s crucial midterm elections.

The treasurer is THE person that is legally responsbile for reporting both the contributions and the expenses of the party. The party's position that it doesn't matter because the 7.1M in debt has been paid is flat out wrong.

Even if that the 7.1M in debt has been paid, the treasurer is the person responsible for making those payments and should certainly have been aware of it.

This is not a matter of a simple bookkeeping error or misunderstanding. Someone-either the treasurer or Steele/RNC is flat out lying. Given the treasurer did the right thing by filing an amended report immediately, as is his legal responsibility, my money is on the treasurer being the truthful party.

It's amazing how many fireable offenses Steele has survived to date.

it seems like most people have already stopped giving money to the RNC and donated it elsewhere (Republicans Governors Association and whatnot)

Well hiding prior debt is a deception and not outright theft, but who knows, maybe our RNC chairman can justify his last name of Steal. Maybe the spelling police can bust me by pointing out his actual last name is properly spelled Steele.

But I still rest my case, that Steele politically correct spelling is a deception too. Maybe ole Robert can legally change his last name to Hide. Maybe that is the GOP problem, not enough people named Seek.

Really need to wait for more info before drawing any conclusions.

The accountants around here will understand immediately that if $7 mil in debt is wrongly ommitted from the balance sheet, there's another $7 mil error somewhere otherwise the books wouldn't balance.

Ah but we miss the point, if the GOP doctored the books in a fraudulent report already submitted to the Federal government, the Federal government can and very well might fine the RNC millions of dollars the GOP really needs to run their mid-term election campaign to buy all the advertising air time.

Even if we buy the Fern contention, that there is another 7 million wrongly reported, the Federal election oversight poo bahs will be even less amused.

But still, to be fair, as I read the news links, the slam dunk case is yet to be made that Steele submitted a fraudulent filing. And that final definitive answer may be days or weeks away.
