she looks like she's eaten a few babies heself

just wonder what her take would be if her SO refused to discuss voting options and voted a straight democratic ticket without her input. after all that is exactly what would happen with this kind of system.

Bold move for the RNC. When's David Duke speaking?

Reading thru the article, it's clear she's a religious nutter. Still, in this day and age, it's hard to fathom what a woman must feel about herself if she thinks that a husband and wife are not equals

Missing the big picture here.... WHY would the RNC allow her or speakers like this IN THE FIRST PLACE? That, is the question. We all know that people like her do exist, that is nothing new, but to give people like this a platform on national TV during prime-time? THAT is something new, and so so WRONG!!!!

It's just the natural progression of the party. The more staunchly conservative and extreme they become, the more the lean on "the good ole days"

Is it? I'd place a bet that there's been some abuse in her family history.

I'd be very surprised if she mentions it during the conference. It's one thing to pander to religious nutters, it's another thing to tell lots of your faithful voters that you would like to strip them of their right to vote. If she doesn't mention it, then the pandering is successful to those that know her (implied support of her opinions), and those that don't but watch Fox News etc, they'll never hear about it or dismiss it as fake news.

Yea, maybe "hard to fathom" was a stretch. As a person raised in a religious nutter house, I can say the psychological abuse (and sometimes physical) can really wreak havoc on a person's life.

PS. it is all so weird. So so very weird. So incredibly weird. I just figure that I will try to ignore most of this republican-Donald Trump-RNC crapola, and when the time comes I'll simply and quietly vote for JOE BIDEN. Just let the BS slide, stay focused, and when the time comes around vote for Joe. THEN.... if America has collectively LOST HER MIND and still decides to reelect Donald Trump, then we know. Then we all will know that the crazies have taken over, and there is nothing we non-crazies can do about it. If insanity is to become the majority, well then what can we do? I figure a country ran by bastards, racists and ignorance will eventually self destruct. IT MUST! And when that happens, and if you can survive it, then just maybe a better America will emerge? Or, maybe not. Maybe America can start all over again calling herself something new and different like... THE UNITED STATES OF I TOLD YOU SO, YOU DONALD TRUMP ASSHOLES.

I see someone who is bemusedly self aware of how insane she is, of how utterly irrational and absurdly distant from reality the things she knows she is supposed to believe in but thankful, in her mind also, will never become reality. The time of horseshit laws of ancient religions has passed or dying and aren't coming back if not ever than anytime soon. Don't forget that what Republicans claim is morality and what they practice is the kind of hypocrisy they are masters at rationalizing. But this is just a feeling I have that may be way off. Maybe she just hates all women and holds them in contempt. Just not my first guess.

I don't think it necessarily has to do with how they have some sense of self-loathing, but it just goes back to a traditional sense of gender roles. Of course, these traditional gender roles are exemplified by The Bible where the push is for the man to be the head of the household and the woman to support her husband. That's likely where this woman's idea of household voting comes from; essentially, if the man makes the decisions in the house, why should she vote (i.e. make a decision)?

To be clear, I think it's absolutely ludicrous, and one thing that I abhor is the obsession people have with "tradition". Just think about how often we do things "because it's tradition" without realizing why we actually do it. Buying a diamond ring for an engagement? Tradition! ...or the result of a 1930's marketing campaign from De Beers to push the idea of a diamond representing love. De Beers thanks you for your patronage. :p

Although, I think I hate traditions like the diamond one mentioned before the most. I can understand that some traditions actually had a purpose at one point in time (and may just be archaic now), but marketing leading to tradition feels like dirty manipulation. In other words, there never was a purpose other than lining someone's pocketbook.

It was 50 years ago when my parents generation burned their bra's to continue women's liberation. It was 100 when women finally attained the right to vote. To continue to say that we need to rewind history to "MAGA" is extreme conservatism. I agree with you here, and obviously every single person 18+ in the country deserves a vote. RNC allowing people to say differently is tone deaf IMO, and this particular individual is looney toons.

Same person has also has made racist statements against her own adopted son.

She’s a known grifter. I’m appalled the GOP gave her a national platform.

In this era of politics I feel it's a valid question to ask whether she realises that this includes herself.
Was the before or after the immigrant FLOTUS with a heavy accent talked about the 100th anniversary of ratification of the 19th Amendment?

Yep ... a grifter through and through...

I wonder if she raised them that way.

“You! Brown son! You are statistically more likely to commit a violent offense than my white sons.”

Didn't Ann Coulter say something similar? Wanting to take the vote away from women. The point being that if women hadn't had the vote the Republicans would have won almost every election in the last 100 years, because women have historically tended Democrat.

Funnily enough the reverse point has been made over here - a lefitsh woman once jokingly bemoaned women having the vote, because for most of history (at least up until the Blair era) they've tended to be noticably more conservative than male voters, directly the opposite pattern from the US. I think that reflects the different type of 'left' you have in the US vs Europe. A trade-union dominated left tends to be a male-dominated one, with women having historically been left out of that workplace-based idea of solidarity and being more focussed on more individual and hence more conservative concerns, like worry about violent crime or 'family values'.

In the US the 'left' (at least in the recent past) has been less about militant work-place based politics and more about things that women have tended to be more concious of - support for children or other vunlerable non-workplace-based groups, and for women themselves.
