RMA'ng an IBM hd....

has turned out to be a real pain. I went to their site and entered the s/n and p/n and it stated that I would have to get the rma through the vendor from which it was purchased. Having bought the drive from an individual off *bay several months ago, I have no idea where it was originally purchased 🙁 . Do I have any other recourse?

Thanks in advance.

I RMA'ed an IBM 20GB 60GXP earlier today. I called IBM @ 1-888-426-5214 (8am - 9pm CST) and provided the Serial # to the rep.
IBM then sent me a Return Material Authorization (RMA) Notification with specific instructions via email.

I've been partial to IBM drives for years but will switch to another brand due to the many problems they've had with recent models (75GXP, 60GXP). Don't know if there are issues with the 120GXP and 180GXP models.

If IBM won't RMA it, it means that it was taken out of a pre-built system. In that case, IBM does not warranty the drive. The only recourse would be with the original system manufacturer and you would need to know who they are, the serial number of the PC, etc.

Hey I had this happen too, it was a seagate and a brand new drive. They are not actually necessarily out of a system, rather the manufacturer in this case, IBM, made it for another company like SUN to put in a workstation. SUN, or whoever never used it, so someone got it and sold it on ebay. Then you get it and it breaks, and you only recourse is to find who you bought it from on Ebay if you have a warranty. In my case I actually had the box they sent it in, and the warranty was good so I got a new drive outta them.

Good luck though.🙂

I should be so lucky.

I found the receipt. I bought it, thru *bay, from HC Distributors Inc. I sent them an email two days ago but haven't received a reply.
I'm not holding my breath.
