I'm doing an RMA of RAM that I bought used here on the Anandtech sale/trade forum. It came to me and was not working. The person from whom I purchased it suggested I RMA it, since it has a lifetime warranty. The RMA department of the company asked me for
The place of purchase
Approximate date of purchase

among other system specific questions. Is it ok to tell them that I bought the RAM used online, or will they refuse to RMA it if I say that?

Lifetime warranties are usually only for the original owner. Do you have the receipt for the RAM?

And often lifetime warranties are tied to the original system that they were installed in as well as the original owner. Which company are you trying to RMA it to?

since the RAM is old, i'm going to see if they accept the "i don't have a receipt from 2+ years ago" routine. we'll see how it flies.
