RMA'ing my LCD to Dell. Will I get a new one or like new one in return?

ok, it was a pain in the butt, but I finally got another, hopefully better 1800FP coming my way after my new one had a nice dead pixeled vertical line down the middle of it.

I've only had the original LCD for 4 days. When I was talking to CSR, she said they'll send a replacement one. So I asked if that meant brand new? She goes well it will be functioning like new. This didn't make me too happy and I proceeded to explain I've only had my new LCD for 3 days and it's broken already, for the money I paid for this, I better be receiving a new one. She says oh well, because it's within 30 days, you'll get a new one.

Now I know I've read things about when you return something to Dell, the usually send you a refurb as a replacement? Or since I'm within 30 days of receiving it (i've only had the thing for 3 days), I will get a new one in return?

Just looking for people's experiences with RMA'ing to Dell. Thanks

If that's the case return it for your $ back and wait until another deal comes up and buy a brand new one :)

Oh boy that definately sucks. Are you sure it's a refurb that they send you?

I can tell you exactly what you'd hear from the "Dell" agent on the phone if you ask...

"You will receive an identical unit in return from us."

You ask more specifically and they say...

"I cannot answer that. By law we must classify every unit that we send out as 'refurbished' due to the fact that the package was opened. Even if the unit itself was never touched by human hands, we still must call it refurbished simply due to the fact that the box was opened - even by us to test the unit."

Point is - it can't be answered. You might get new, you might get used. Depends on what they have in stock at the time.

Ah, that's reassuring :( Oh well, if it looks new, has a nice picture and no dead pixels, I'll be happy.

I was just looking to hear from people that have RMA'd things to Dell and receive replacements and whether or not, they're happy with the replacements they receive. Examples like 'returned a monitor, got a replacement, works great, very happy' or 'returned a monitor, replacement definitely looks used, has a few scratches on it, etc'

when I had to return a scanner to Dell, I got a brand new one in replacement.

I was gonna RMA to canon but they told me they were gonna send a refurb.
Contacted Dell, They sent me a new one.

If you RMA to dell, they'll send you the monitor and you pack your old one back in the one you get.

You can test it to see if it's good or not. :)

I rma'd a 17 inch crt about a year ago. The monitor was almost 2 years old though and I did get a refurb.

On the positive side I called them at 6 pm to do the rma and recieved my new (refurb) monitor the next day :).
