I need to RMA a retail Athlon that I just bought. I was wondering, does anyone know if I'm suppose to do so with AMD or Newegg, where I got it? Thanks.

Never had to deal with an AMD RMA, but I just RMA'd 2 RAID cards back to NE, and their service is awesome!!! I heard some bad stories a year or so ago, but I guess now they're rolling in so much dough, they don't mind (or they finally care about their resellerratings). 2 of the same items, no questions asked (bad LED headers), RMA issued a week ago, they received them today and said to expect a refund in a day or two. No restocking charged either. They also cross-shipped to me twice, but charged me for my 3ware Escalade 7000-2 b/c it wasn't an identical replacement (which was fine with me).

BTW, don't buy any Koutech IOFLEX RAID refurbs from NE in the next few weeks if you want working LED headers ;)

I think you have ~7 days to rma a cpu with newegg. AMD warranty's them, but is very strict on it's guidelines.

Personally, I have never seen or heard of a bad AMD CPU except ones that people chipped the core by not being carefull installing the HSF. What happened to yours ?

How do you know it works great when you are RMAing the CPU ? Maybe it was a refurb beause it had a problem they couldn't duplicate, but you can ? (they don't actually fix refurb MB's, just check out returns and resell the ones they are sure are good, or think are good)

Guess I'm not positive but it bit work fine with my old Duron and a neighbors XP1900. And the CPU wouldn't work in my neighbors EPOX mobo.. I hope its just the CPU, I'll find out soon enough I guess. I bought another XP2001 last night here on the FS\FT forum.. :)

i had to deal with amd once when i needed a replacement fan for my retail hsf. no matter how many times i told the rep that i dont need the entire cpu replace he couldnt understand me. after hanging up with him i had a feeling that i didnt get my point across, but i decided to wait anyway. well 2 weeks later and no hsf. so i decided to call amd again and this time another rep got everything straight. so if its not a dumb rep then you will get it quick. be sure to get the serial # on the fan, cause you will need it if you call them.

i have had two RMA's with AMD

they will ask you for serial number on the retail heatsink fan

they will also ask for a reciept showing purchase of processor which they will ask you to fax to them . i was able to email them a jpg copy

they will then issue you a RMA number and address via email.

they will also tell you warranty is void if you have tampered with the processor in any way . by this i mean L1s connected by you or someone else to unlock the processor. or any other bridges that have been modified in such a way that wasnt done by the factory

If it is retail and beyond 30 days you can call AMD they are very cool and easy to deal with.
If less than 30 days, then the seller
