RMA'd a TI4400 128 and received a FX5600 Ultra

so did I get ripped or is the 5600 Ultra as good as the TI4400?

I've read about the TI's being faster than the FX series...

I know that the 5600 Ultra supports DX9 but is that enough??

A slight step down in terms of speed, but the 5600U should be faster with AA+AF.

The 5600U flip chip version is clocked at 400/400. The earlier, discontinued wirebond version is clocked at 350/350. nV's drivers should tell you the card's speed, no? Keep in mind both operate at ~300MHz in desktop/2D mode.

If it's a flip chip version, it should be about equal. If it's the old version then they kinda shafted you. Btw, who did you rma it to?

Actually that's a good card. I think it's better than a ti-4400. Once you use aa and af the ti-4400 gets left behind sometimes. If your clock speeds are 400/800 it should be the FC one.

Tom's has the VGA charts with a bunch of cards listed.

If clock speed is the only difference between the FC and older version, it wouldn't be that hard to overclock to at least close to the FC's speed, even if you got the older version.

thanks for the info guys...

what utility is a good one to find out clock speeds? Powerstrip still good..I haven't overclocked a video card for years...

If you have 3DMark01/03 installed, I think it will list clock speeds in the detailed info at the end of a benchmark run. Again, the drivers themselves don't have a clockspeed tab?

Yep very fair exchange .. maybe even good on your end 🙂

You made out pretty good actually.
I've heard people rma'ing their TI4200-4400 cards and recieving
FX 5600XT cards instead with........64-bit memory bus.
Poor unlucky guys, lol.

🙂

This is pretty funny. IIRC, ppl who had the same thing happen to them were complaining about receiving a 5600U a few short months ago. Now ppl seem more accepting of mediocrity. 😉
