I got my 9800pro replacement for my dead 9700 pro today.
The cooling fan is dead on the new card, it worked fine just about long enough for me to install the drivers then it started to checkerboard and locked up the comp.
I pulled the card and checked the fan connection and tried it a couple more times, but the fan just dosen't work.
I put a fan from a socket A heatsink on it and it works fine now.
I'm going to e-mail ATI and see if I can get just a fan, or if they want me to return the card again. I really don't want to be with out a vid card for another 7-9 days again.
If they won't just send me a fan I will prob just order a new and better HSF assembly from somewhere.

Good turnaround time and I was very happy to get the upgrade to my previous card, overall the RMA experience was very good.

Hi Osage... well it's nice they upgraded the card, too bad the fan is dead. IMHO I would e-mail them and explain the prob, it seems they are very diligent so you might explain them that you can't be without your computer again for another 7-9 days, perhaps you can make them ship a replacement card and when you receive it you can ship the one with the dead fan to them.

At least Amazon.com works that way. I ordered a Canon A75 Digital Camera from amazon back in december and it had some color and focus problems, I requested a return and they sent me a new one inmediately and it arrived in a couple of days. When the UPS people delivered the new camera they took the defective one back to amazon, I didn't even had to pay for the shipping....ahh....too bad Amazon doesn't sells quality computer parts.

Now then, if you are planning on installing a VGA Silencer then you can keep the current one and avoid the trouble of another RMA. I got an ATI 9800 PRO on eBay (in like new condition) and I can tell you that at least mine it's a little oven. It made my case temp jump up 10°C so I had to literally "wrap the card with fans" to keep it cool while I wait for the VGA silencer I ordered. I have an 80mm fan blowing directly at the heatsink and a 40mm blowing the back of the card. That's the only way I can stabilize my temps and keep the card from generating small artifacts with atitool. Some people tell me that I should try to reseat the HSF, but I've read that the pins kinda weak and easily broken, and I don't want to mess up with the card before the Silencer arrives.
