I rma my ati 5970 to diamond 3 months for the 2nd time.
They are now offering to send me a 7970 as a replacment is that a fair deal.
There replayed
The issue we are now facing is what card would be an acceptable replacement. The 5970 was a limited run card, and we can no longer obtain any. Would a 7970 be an acceptable upgrade?

I think gaming performance wise a 7970 is fairly close to a 5970, which was two 5870 cores at 5850 clocks? I would personally take it...lower power consumption and similar performance I think. Look up reviews though, I may be wrong about the performance.

EDIT: Actually I was thinking of the 6990, which is faster than your 5970. The 7970 should definitely be faster than a 5970, if it is within 10-15% of the 6990.

Here's a comparison:

I would go for it.

I meant a 5970 which only cost me 300.00 new.
I will tell them to ship it and it is also PCI-E -3 and has more useable memory and quit
thank you

That comparison link at xtremesystems is a good read.
I always had good luck with rma cards.
Evga sent me 3 brand new replacement cards for month old RMAs.
When my MSI 4890 went and MSI no longer made them they sent a check for 225. and I still have the other 4890 in my wife 2500k.

Man what are your cards being subjected to? Are you an RMA-generating machine? How can you create so many RMA events?

That since 1994
Had very back luck with every early sli setup blew 7900, 2-8800gt ,7950
Back those days I got evga sc as soon as they came out all three of the replacements cards had better and different power circuits none card ran hot do water cooling.
So I switched to CF 4890 which lasted 9 months.
My 5970 is the only single card that died and was never even benched.

7970 is a good replacement. You get GCN architecture benefits when they are finally released too. Go for it.

I wouldn't even think twice about it. Grab the 7970 and run. Although if you really wanna push your luck, you should request a 280x :awe:
