I have a quantum fireball 30gb drive that started to give be problems. I ran some tests and when doing a read test I get back "Probable Surface defect uncorrectable ECC". It then gives a cyl, head and sector number. I have run it several times and get the same message with different locations each time. So I guess the drive is bad, my question is has anyone had to RMA one of these drives and how do you go about it??

thanks

maxtor now owns quantum. I suggest you go to their site and see what you need to do. Maxtor makes it easy to get an RMA # from them.

Thanks for the reply, downloaded their diag. program and running the test now. Once I submit the error code I should be set.
