RMA morality question...

Sorry for starting so many threads today 😱

As some of you may know, I had a Tyan Tiger MP do the 5V meltdown thing. This burnt up my PSU's ATX connector pretty badly. I'm now having strange problems that I blame on the PSU. The main problem is that I can't use my keyboard in Windows or Linux unless I have a second keyboard in the PS/2 mouse slot, and I hold down a key when the OSes start.

I suspect the PSU because PS/2 devices are 5V.

It was the tiger's fault, but I'm wondering if I should RMA my PSU back to Newegg. Any comments?

Is the "5v meltdown" thing because of something you did to the motherboard? (To overclock or something else) or is this some problem with the actual motherboard? Just never heard of it

Edit: If this is indeed something the motherboard did on its own, they should be responsible for the Power Supply.

Nope. Tiger Dual mobos are known to have this issue.

No, it's Tyan's fault 😛

It's happened to hundreds of users. Check out 2CPU.com's forums. Lots of "Dead Tiger MP 🙁" threads there.

It happened to me too. Damn mobo is just sitting on my desk since I can't find the original receipt to RMA it.

I would definately call up Tyan and let them have it. Tell them their motherboard fried your PSU and you expect them to replace it. If they dont, ask to speak to a manager. Let him know you know it's a problem specific to the motherboard and has fried many peoples, if they don't agree to replace, tell him you plan on filing a class action lawsuit for an item that is known to cause potential fires and fry electrical parts. That should work 😀

Right, well my worry is that I'll get a cold shoulder from Tyan. I will be *seriously* pissed if I have to not only replace a $200 motherboard, but a $115 PSU. If the PSU was dead, I wouldn't even have bothered asking. The reason I *did* ask is that I believe the damage to be only to the plug. They could change it out and sell it as new again, or just fix it and send it back.

I would just do it myself, but that would void the warranty should the PSU itself fail.

Yeah, I'm using it now. Like I said, the only problem is the keyboard thing. Maybe I can clean the connector with some GooGone first.

yeah... I'd definatly call tyan. If they won't fix it you could always just call and ask NewEgg or whomever about your PSU. But, i would really go after Tyan for replacement of both devices.

Well, Tyan is going to RMA my board. I'm going to RMA the PSU and ask Tyan if they can, if need be, provide proof that it was their motherboard that damaged the PSU.

Sound like a plan?
