RMA, eTailer or Western Digital?

I just got a new WD 250GB SATA, it was DOA. Turns out the repeated soft clicking sound I heard means it's defective.

I bought it from BASON Computer, I just received an RMA from them.

Western Digital has an expidited RMA using my credit card.

So do I get a WD or Hitachi HD from Bason or a replacment HD from WD? I'm interested in fastest turn-around.

I'd say WD, but then I'm biased 🙂

Actually, when we retailers have a custome return a DOA part, we end up just shipping it back to the manufacturer as well. So if the manufacturer is willing to RMA it for you, you can eliminate the middle man.

Since you guys couldn't agree 😀 I went with the WD advance RMA. Got the drive today, my PCI SATA card saw it on boot, Device Mgr recognized the HD, Disk Mgmnt allowed me to assign a Letter and Name, and ~2 hours later it was formatted.

One small question, the replacement drive was in a welded anti-static bag whereas the "NEW" OEM HD was in a taped anti-static bag, seems odd. What say you?

Many thanks for the replies. 🙂
