RMA Asus's MotherBoard and They request for $120 Fees

RMA my Nephew's Asus MotherBoard to Asus and they replied an email showed the board doesn't have a serial # sticker on it and in order to repair or replacement a $120 fees needs.

When i ask my Nephew how he get the serial # from? He said, he got it from the Original mobo's Box stick. I shipped with original mobo box but I didn't double check sticker on mobo before I ship it out.

Now, to whom have experienced deal with Asus Mobo RMA, what's my option i have and what can you suggest before I call Asus RMA dept.

This Asus Mobo can not post or beep. I have tested, psu, cpu and rams without problem. This mobo can not post in BIOS. I have removed mobo's battery to rest it and no luck.

My question, why can they obtain the serial # from bios chip? as they have tools and programs to so.

Well, they have my mobo in hand, if I refuse to pay $120, they ask $20-$50 fees process and ship back my board. So, feel free to post and suggest any experience idea before i call Asus RMA dept.

If there isn't a serial number sticker on the MB the warranty is pretty much voided.

Dependent on the value of the motherboard it might be best to cut your losses now and replace it.

My only experience with a Asus rma wasn't a good one. I sent a motherboard in to get repaired. The only issue it had was it would not stay off. It would power down completely, then around 15 seconds later it would power back up all by itself. The 1st rma they did nothing so I called and complained once I tested it. The 2nd rma they flashed the bios and sent it back which didn't fix the issue. 4-5wks of wasted time!

Wow. This is news to me. Good to know, I will have to keep that in mind from now on when buying a used motherboard under warranty.

mobo model is M4A89GTD PRO/USB3. Ebay is between 75 to 100 bux. A freshman college Nephew can't afford for another mobo. Search Asus is good custom support and good mobo. They're pain in my ass

I RMA'd my Asus motherboard once for the Intel Sata defect, and it was returned with broken USB 2.0 ports. I can live without USB 2.0 since It has four 3.0 ports, but a year later, one of the bios updates bricked it, and they flashed it, but did not fix the USB problem.

Anyway, when doing the RMA on the second board, I could not find a serial sticker from on the board itself that matched the box. They made no complaint about the serial number so I guess the one on the box worked. I returned it in the original box, packed with 3" of foam on all sides as required by their instructions. It was returned to me in a thin brown box with no additional packing, and the original box is gone.

I was never charged for service, but it was inconvenient all the same. It's always good to take pictures of an item before it ships, including stickers and the packaging in case there is any question later on. As for now, I have a motherboard with no documentation and no purchase date or proof of ownership. I had to re-authenticate windows because it detected it as a different motherboard, but I'm pretty sure it is the same board with a new bios chip.

I had the exact same problem where Asus didn't fix a damn thing and sent the product back to me. 2 separate times on two separate products. I don't buy Asus anymore because their customer service is god awful

I think you are past the 3yrs point so now they will gouge you.
I'd raise a stink over email, if that don't work then consider it a complete loss.

The best option would likely be buying a refurbished/clearance AM3 board from newegg if this is an option for you. That route would be much cheaper than what asus is charging you + shipping.
$120 + shipping is nearly enough to build a newer/better barebone system

I've never done an asus RMA/repair, but I have dealt with asrock and gigabyte. Gigabyte was very good I only had to pay shipping. Asrock charged me $20 to replace the bios which corrupted the first time I used the thing.

no more asus for me either - unless it is dirt cheap to begin with - which will never happen.

wanted to get a cosmetic socket replace on a 99.99% working asus motherboard. asus replied that there was a $120 "fine" on top of part and labor. WTF. Stupid Asus.

using motherboard "as is" typing this post.

I RMAd a board to Asus. a week later I had a brand new board in a shrink wrapped box with all the accessories.

I'm not sure how that mobo doesn't have a serial# sticker on it. Was the motherboard bought new or used online? It could've been a problematic board sold as a working one that held out for awhile...

I've generally had good experiences with ASUS RMA. I've RMA'ed about 5 different motherboards and three video cards and most of the time I get a working, like new product back. One time thought I had to RMA an ASUS M2A-VM motherboard twice to get a working board. Huge pain in the bum!

My experience with them many years ago was also pretty bad. RMA'd a motherboard that wouldn't post after verifying that everything else in the PC was functioning. They "fixed" it and sent it back to me after a few weeks. Still no worky.

After spending a lot of time on the phone explaining that I had verified every other component was not defective, I sent the mobo back and they sent me a refurb and TADA! my computer worked again.

If I hadn't had a backup PC at the time I probably would have just had to buy a new motherboard rather than dick around with Asus for over a month.

Update: Sent a message to Asus Cooperation more then 48hrs now without a single reply. I spoke to Rep, he claimed in charge in Asus RMA Dept. For sure they recycled my original box with serial # sticker and now the serial # sticker not on the board. I asked can you retrieve from the bios chip. he say, bios chip can be remove and replace with another chip. I told, sticker can be remove and replace by you guys as well. After 30min they call me back left a message told, no serial # stick on board no warranty. Board will be eject if $120 not pay by this Friday.

Update: I posted this matter up to Asus's Facebook public for Asus Cooperation to address this matter. is any suggestion and what do have to face after that.

They recycled my original box with serial # stick and miss handle my board and missed the serial # sticker. Refund to retrieve the serial from bios chip. With all this and wait to reject my board or pay them $120 to process RMA.

I've found that out of any company I've had to deal with RMAs, Asus had the worst customer service.

I haven't bought a single Asus product since.

I'll up you one....I haven't bought a nvidia pc product since bumpgate. :)

Similar story for me. After 3 different reps making promises that never materialized, I posted a bad review on Newegg and "Benson" replied with his email address, and my issue, eventually, was resolved. It shouldn't have to take 4 different attempts at contact just to get a meaningful reply. Even though their products generally are pretty good, their customer service inclines me not to buy their products again.

Asus, are you listening?

Same here they screwed around with a gpu, I was promised in writing 3x that its ok and they'll RMA it and in the end they informed me they shipped it back and won't RMA it.

No more Asus for me. Bummer cuz I like their products but it appears to be at the expense of customers.

I had good experiences with Asus RMA service in the past (video card), but more recently I had a p67 motherboard go out that needed to be RMAed 3 times before I finally got a working z68 board. I'm guessing they didn't have working stock of my older p67 and kept sending me old broken boards until I complained enough. I wasted 2 months of time on that. Never again.

Yep Asus has done me wrong several times. Its not like they are the cheapest product either.

I don't buy asus anymore.
