RJ45 Surge Protector needed with Powerline Networking?

So, I have a powerline networking setup at the house. While I have surge protectors for my PCs, I also need to add a RJ45 surge protector (or get some kind of all in one unit) to be truly protected right?

Or is powerline networking gear built in a way as to not transmit power surges to whatever they are plugged into?

That's a good question, I would plug it through some sort of Surge, if you are fortunate you can find a 6 port Surge Protect with Ethernet (RJ45) built in at your local Super Store or Radio Shack - you can find specialty ones online but a standard Surge would be fairly cost effective.

I wouldn't bother. Those things cause more problems than they prevent.

The Ethernet ports should be optically isolated. There's no direct copper connection between the powerline and the ethernet
(Google on opto-isolators for description of what they do)
