If you have a Fry's near ya, you can get a crimper for under 15 bucks. I've got one of them and it's serving me well :) Just remember to "flatten" the cable when you cut off the outer casing or you might also cut the wires inside.

DOnt crimp, use patch cords and punch down jacks, it will save you lots of grey hairs

I got my crimper at Onvia for $15 shipped (now it's 16.51). It works great and is pretty solid.

Be sure to follow the proper instructions for crimping and you'll be fine.

<edit> I'm not sure what you mean by "crimps in the front" but with the one from Onvia you insert the cable/connector from the side of the crimper (very easy to use tho)</edit>

High-quality crimpers usually have it on the front because it crimps all the contacts evenly. Some cheapo crimpers that have a side hole don't do a very good job. I have seen some side-crimpers that are designed to do it properly. The more you spend, the better it is.

ahhhh - my inexperience with crimping shows:eek: I've never used a front crimper.

Mine (from Onvia) is the one shown in the second how-to link I posted above.
