I run PS3 Media server myself on my old iBook G4 with a 160gb USB HDD attached. (I really need to get a 1tb one next) Works with Xbox 360 as well. Also a nice program and it's freeware. The interface isn't as streamlined as Rivet but it gets the job done, and does it well.

Does PS3 Media Server interface directly with the iLife libraries? I recall trying it out once before and didn't think it did, but I might be mistaken.

No, it doesn't. I just use it for video and I have everything stored on an external drive. It's pretty basic similar to how TVersity works. It basically reads the folders you have your media in but you have to tell it which folders to use.
