The title explains the issue - it happened to me this afternoon.

SpySweeper would stop at scanning RivaTuner.exe as a Memory Scan item, followed by the BSOD.

For now I will use RivaTuner manually before playing games, turning up the fan to 75% in Low Level Fan control, instead of gradual 45/60/75% with Hardware Monitoring.

Perhaps others have similar experiences with other AntiSpyware/AntiVirus software...?

I give up on spysweeper this year as it has gone down in performance for me. doesn't detect a whole lot and causes problems like your experiencing now. there are better solutions now

I do not let the SpySweeper start with Windows anymore, as I experienced problems a few years ago.

But it was just running a scan now. And a few times in the past year it identified and disinfected a few Trojans.

The most recommended AntiSpyware today is Spyware Doctor by PCTools, but people complain that it uses a lot of system resources.

Spy Sweeper started going downhill over a year ago (when the core team left). During that time detection rates have dropped, and the software is resource intensive and buggy. Spyware Doctor is in the same boat, and there is an issue with FP's. If you're looking for real-time protection then nothing beats SUPERAntiSpyware when it comes to detection, removal, and low resource usage. The new 4.0 (sign up for the forums and the 4.0 pre-release forum will be displayed) only has a single process that uses <600KB of memory if you go by what task manager reports; there is virtually zero impact on system performance. You get lifetime updates for $19.95 and some of the best support in the industry.
