I am looking for a TNT2 card (32MB memory, if possible). Which should I buy TNT2 M64 or regular TNT2? And if anyone knows where to buy it from, let me know.

And plus, what is the difference between SDRAM and SGRAM on graphics card?

Thanks

Id go with the TNT2 Ultra or the TNT2 Non-Ultra. Avoid the M64, I have heard bad things about it. I have a a Viper V770 32 MB TNT2 Non Ultra and its a decent card.I suggest you go with the Ultra for that little extra boost. The best place to find one would probably be on E-bay, you can find new and used one there and they will most probably be cheaper than most department stores.

The Ultra is also a little better for o'clocking since it has the fan on the heatsink.

Hope that helps.

BTW-Get the Det 3 Drivers for Win 2k. If they dont work then go with Det 2s. I had problems getting in WIn 2K Pro with Det 3s.

Definitely stay away from the M64. It has a crippled 64-bit memory bus, which is a serious handicap to its 3D performance. Of course, if you're using it for basic 2D work, then it doesn't matter much. Then again, if you're using it for 2D work, there are better or cheaper cards than the TNT2.

A regular TNT2 is better, or the TNT2 Ultra or the newer TNT2 Pros.

Thanks for much guys for your input. But I have one more question. Is TNT2 Vanta cards any different than the regular TNT2 or TNT2 Ultra?

Thanks again for all of you!!!!

The TNT2 Vanta is the predecessor to the TNT2 M64. So you can imagine what the performance must be like there - even more crippling.

Oh, the pain of UT only playable at 800x600... :Q

;)

Stay away from the M64/Vanta. Go with a TNT2u, I had one, they are nice, and they overclock decently. More than my V5 does. I'd say go with the Detonator 2's, actually, the 3's help the GeForce and hurt the TNT. That's what happened to me, and I read it somewhere, too.

Tha Vanta is also another low performing part, although I forgot why. I think it is either clocked lower, has a 64bit memory bus, is based on the older TNT(not TNT2) core, or a combination of any of the above 3 points.

What you want is either a regular TNT2, a TNT2 Ultra or a TNT2 Pro

I would be very carefull on Eb@y, most people do not know the difference between an Ultra and a M64. They seem to think that if it says TNT2 that it must be an Ultra.

BTW:
I am running an M64 for light weight gaming, works great for my purpose. If you go to the Nvidia web page they have specs for each of the the differnt chipsets. That should clear up a lot of questions.

Grasshopper, send me an email if you're interested in a TNT2 Ultra w/ 32MB of SGRAM. I have on one the way, as an RMA replacement for a card I purchased in mid June. I'm considering selling it and getting a GeForce2 MX card. I would let the TNT2U go for a very reasonable price. Let me know what you'd like to do.

P.S. Theoretically SGRAM is supposed to be faster than SDRAM on a video card, as SGRAM allows both an in and an out process during each clock cycle, while SDRAM only allows an in or an out. Practically there isn't that much difference, but SGRAM can't hurt <g>.

how much are you going to pay for a tnt2? i brougth one earlier this year & even though i get a 3540 at 1024x768 in 16bit for 3dmark2000, i would rather have gotten a matrox G400, i never had a matrox product before but installing them for people at work, i think the overall quality is better, the tnt2 chipset has minor problems with certain game & features, if you play games like final fantasy & rogue spear, there graphical problems in rogue spear every since they added fssa support into their drivers & cgw magazines did a review on the hercules prophet II, radeon & voodoo5 5500 & with fssa compatiblity in current games, voodoo5 5500 has the best comptibility, followed by the geforce2 gts & then the radeon, but they said both the radeon & geforce caused problems in some games with fssa enabled. The new matrox G450 that came out would be something to look into, even though it isn't the fastest card, it's a all around well balanced card for games, dvds & work.
