What hardware risks would I run with a PCI speed of 44mhz? I have a nic and sound card, a hard drive (of course), CD-ROM and CD-RW. Which of these are at risk of physical damage?

add depends on brand and your particular system setup, the only way to truly know is to just take a deep breath and run the system @ 44... if things start locknig up or you get some weird performance from your devices, you know it's too high... other than that, there is no set value at which things run okay... you may be lucky and have strong componenets... if you don't have to though, i would drop it a little...

If your nic stops working then the PCI bus is too fast, I tried it but you can set it back to normal

If anything, I would look out for the HD controller though... At that speed, there's a greater chance for corrupting the data on the hard drive... :(

I would have plenty of backups just to be safe.. I smell data corruption and very few components handling that PCI fsb.

what the fellas said. you are asking for trouble. you can quickly f..k up things and need to do a clean install. if you just did a clean install and have nothing to loose then go for it, but as far as a long term setup - don't do it.

I'll have to back up my data then... any way to burn a hard drive image to CD?
