Looks interesting . . . from what I could tell from their odd German-English hybrid website.

Cool. I love the Gothic series (especially 1 & 2).

3 is pretty good now with the patch, but it'll be interesting to see if they can recapture that special quality they created in the first two games.

I really enjoyed Gothic 3. To me it was what Oblivion should of been... too bad it was just so damn buggy. I'll look into this game after a few patches.

Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth. As much as I loved Gothic 1 and 2 I'll be holding off on Risen to see just how Piranha Bytes does in their initial release. Gothic 3 was a montrous mess and it took a community to fix that mess.

Gothic 3 was released early due to pressure from Jowood. The Piranha Bytes team isn't under them any longer so they may be given the time they need to properly finish this new game. I guess we'll see.. I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes, but they may be just *blaming* the publisher

Haven't you noticed that PB is a bunch of stoners ?

Are they really? lol Gothic 1 and 2 turned out pretty well, although I believe there were numerous launch bugs with those as well. I think it's just the nature of these large scale RPG's as I don't know any (Oblivion, Fallout, Two World, etc..) that haven't had numerous launch bugs. Although Gothic 3 was a whole different story..

i mean their "inside" jokes about "swampweed" and the Hashashins :p
- they make it clear they are stoners

Classic stoners may tend to be very artistic and do well in the first planning and "vision" stages of a project; they rarely follow through, however.
[just like G3]

I just had the time to look a little closer and saw that this is a cross platform game.

Damn. Some idealistic part of me was hoping for a PC based game.

Just get The Witcher. Probably the best fantasy RPG I've ever played. Mass Effect wins for Sci-Fi.

I've played the Witcher; it is a good game.

I got to the part with the burning city (maybe a little farther, I can't remember) with the original release but then my hard drive died.

Is it worth replaying with the extended edition (which I can download for free)? Does it have a lot of new content?

Well, two good games and one bad game is still a sign that they might be able to make good game number 3. I am not opposed to buying this if it turns out good.

Given more development time G3 could have been a great game right from the beginning. For those of you who still have your copy handy definitely check out the latest community patch 1.7, as it really does turn it into the game it should have been.

There's about 5 hours of new content in the EE in the form of two new separate adventures which sort of fill out a little backstory.

If you didn't finish the game the first time around, you're really missing out. Completion is where the entire vision they had with the title shines.
