Got this on pre-order, can't wait. For those interested in getting in on a preorder for cheap it's currently $40 through greenmangaming.com

Saw it on Steam, piqued my interest, but I couldn't get into Risen 1. Didn't play it much though.

Risen 1 was a decent game, very fun as mage but bit overpowered unless you turn difficulty up.
Risen 2 they have made a lot of changes so in some ways a completely new game.

I just hope the changes /improvements are for the better.

I almost never buy games at full price, but this game is testing my cheapness HARD. Think I might give in to support piranha.

Loved the first one, really cool game in a nice environment. Great details and the "Euro" touch is always refreshing.

$40 including Treasure Isle DLC off GMG is a steal for Risen 2.

Order placed!

They are releasing it on digital download first like via Steam etc...from what I've read.

My pre-ordered retail version has a release date of August 3rd(just got an email from them),still cheaper then the Steam version but no DLC,however long wait lol.

I just checked their UK site the DLC is worth £7.49 ,http://uk.risen2-shop.com/,so looks like I did the right thing since even my retail copy with buying DLC is still cheaper then digital download copy with free DLC,only thing is I've to wait unles I go via Steam.

More review here:
http://www.rpgwatch.com/#19521
and here:
http://www.rpgwatch.com/#19527

As is always the case with a PB games the reviews are quite mixed. A lot of the negatives, like the overall difficulty, are actually pluses for me so take reviews with a grain of salt and just try the game for yourself.

Yep, that's why I loved Risen and the Gothic series. I don't have a hand-holding map telling me the exact coordinates of my quest.

1/2 sadly, Risen 2 semms to mix in some hand-holding mechanics like fast travel and precise map...

But my pre-order is placed (40 bucks including the DLC) and being an eternal kid that just want to have fun, i'll enjoy it a lot.

One of the reviews I read said that you can't fast travel until you've already been to a location, which is normal for most games now. But you won't actually have a detailed map of the area or island until you buy/find one. That at least seems kind of cool for exploration.

Hmm ... the teleporter rune system was better if I am to understand that you can fast travel to a location the moment you visit it (while in gothic 1-3 and risen you needed items that you only got in later chapters). Maybe they're trying to make the game more in line with it's back story, where traditional magic doesn't exist anymore because the gods are dead and so teleporter runes don't work, but they could have come up with something else..

Anybody playing it? I'm curious how it is, I played about 15 hours of the original (never played the Gothic series) and really like the island and exploring it was awesome. What wasn't so awesome was the combat and the story/voice acting. I'm not expecting much from the latter, but if they can fix the former I might be willing to check it out.

One of the things I liked most about Risen 1 was the lighting and especially the dawn/dusk transitions. Great visuals that made exploring that much more fun. I eventually quit the game after the first Act due to boredom and annoying combat mechanics which never felt comfortable.

Haven't played it yet, but I think I can still address your post. The gothic/risen games have never been about comfort or convenience and are generally considered beginner-unfriendly; piranha is one of the few devs that focuses almost exclusively on their hardcore fans (people complained that the gothic games were notoriously hard, and what does piranha do with risen? make it even harder, naturally :D)

So this sequel will probably follow in the same style as the previous games, though some reviewers are saying they toned down on that a bit.

I like the open environment of Risen 1. It was one of the games strong points for me.

I'll pass on this "sequel."

Another review here http://www.justpushstart.com/2012/04/risen-2-dark-waters-review/ .

The problems within Dark Waters are hard to neglect as the majority of them will affect your overall experience. With the glitchy gameplay and excessive pop-in, I sincerely hope it will be fixed via patch. However, what can’t be fixed are the elements of the game that make it dull, primarily the quests and the shallow combat system. If you are searching for a RPG game with a solid pirate theme that has interesting characters that will give you some funny moments and the freedom to do whatever you want, then Dark Waters might be the game you’re looking for or, at least, your best possible option at the moment. For fans of the games made by Pirahna Bytes or at least you enjoyed the first game, there’s no doubt you will somewhat enjoy this game despite the flaws.

6.8/10 verdict.

Watch out, lots of graphical glitchs and pop ups.
Normally i'd be annoyed as hell but I don't know why, i'm enjoying this game a lot despite the bugs.

Hope they release a patch soon.

Funny how the retail version is not out until 3rd August, only good thing about that is probably be a few patches out or the retail copy will have the patches included,it does appear from having a read at their forums it was released a bit too early, but then that's nothing new for PC games.

Btw anybody with Nvidia SLI issues use latest beta version, that fixes the poor performance SLI issues with Risen 2.

My GTX 570 SLI is running much worse than it does when using single card.

Using the 301.24 since it came out.

Yeah, there are a ton of weird bugs that i'm surprised made it past QA. I guess it's not too surprising considering it's a PB game, but I don't remember Risen 1 having this many issues and I also picked that one up on release day. If you're comfortable editing ini files and have a decent rig, I managed to fix most of the pop up issues by raising some of the graphics values following the instructions in the below forum post. Particularly the setting listed in post #3.
http://forum.deepsilver.com/forum/s...he-config-files-only-for-adventurous-experts-!

There are still odd issues like plants shrinking or expanding if you move near them, but after tweaking the config i've gotten rid of the most annoying stuff, like the flashing trees in the distance.

I also changed the mouse sensitivity through the ini since the Y axis is a decent amount slower than the X axis and there is no way to set it through the in game options, which seems retarded to me. Here's how to do that:
http://forum.deepsilver.com/forum/showthread.php/63027-Wacky-mouse-sens

I'd also suggest bookmarking the following post as it's being constantly added to and will help if you run into other issues:
