Bought this game almost a year ago and just started playing it last night.

It's pretty fun! Just running through the campaign, i'm trying to complete it on 'tough', but it actually is tough. I've conquered maybe 5 territories so far, don't seem to be able to beat the AI on the regular conquer type maps though. I don't like that after conquering a mission based territory, if the AI takes it back you have to beat them in a regular style map to regain it.

It's fairly complex, tons of research options and different buildings and "districts" on top of that, but generally comparable with RoN. The races appear to be quite different, though i've played as only the Vinci so far. Guessing I have to complete the race campaigns in order?

The animations are excellent and upgrading units and using special abilities are all graphically represented. The story and voice acting is blah, but gameplay wise it's very polished. Also, it runs well on my system on high @ 1280x1024 (2.2ghz s939, 2gb, 8800gts320)

Anyone playing? Are there patches available that change much?

I remember following the development of the game, but I got sidetracked and forgot about it. I'll pick it up if I can find it somewhere. I thought it looked rather interesting during development.

Yeah I recommend it, especially if you enjoyed RoN or any expansive RTS like that. I'd be surprised if you can't find it for $20 or less now.

I finished it ages ago. It was pretty cool at first, but it gets really repetitive really fast. There is almost no variety in what you can do. By the time you reach the third set of territories, you just want it to be over.

I found Rise of Nations to be a much more interesting (and fun) game.

Same thing happened to me. I loved RoN, and so I played RoL.. after awhile I was just begging it to be over. All the units are essentially the same (across races) and the build order is pretty repetitive. I dunno, I got bored with it as well.

nah.. you can't really compare RON vs. ROL

one of the highlight in ROL are the heroes development, in RON the "hero" was sort of optional, in ROL it has more emphasis on them than on RON.

of course you can just go the good old method as in C&C and WarCraft to mass produce the best units, and rush the enemy, for a quick game over.

but i like taking my sweet time in ROL to take over their bases (cities), and those mercenaries units you can hire, etc.

the thing in ROL that i do find very useless are the defensives towers, they are always taken down soooooo easily even by using simple troops, i've never seen such a weak defence ever before in any other RTS game

I thought it was a pretty cool game too, got it at CC for like 10 bucks a while back. I was really into the Vinci aesthetic, but playing as the Alin tempered my passion for the game, and by the time I got to the second mission of the Cuotl, I just gave up. Clockwork man owns joo!

Multiplayer is where it really shines. Each race has tactics they need to follow - vinci rely on their buildings and heroes, Alin on their heroes summoning things, and the Cuotl just have killer units.

2v2...the strategy is endless.
