Ripplehost & MySQL question

Can anyone give me a rough estimate of the size of a MySQL database that will be powering a PHPBB2 web forum - say maybe about 100 people max for right now? Not a huge amount of postwh*ring, etc. I'm setting up a small forum and am considering going with Ripplehost, but I have concerns about their size and transfer limits. Also, can someone tell me if a static IP is included with the $10/year and what version of PHPBB they are running (2.0 I'm guessing?)? I need to keep this as cheap as possible. The site is currently being hosted on akheva.com (not my idea) and I'm trying to come up with a better solution before the forum gets too large. I also don't like the akheva BB software. Thanks!

Since RippleHost.com raised their prices to the normal $9.99/yr I would not sign up with them.

Go with e-rice.net instead, same price, you get more 150MB/3GB but only 1 database but they offer support where as RippleHost.com DOES NOT!

Thanks, minendo!

RossMAN,

Thanks for suggesting e-rice. I am reading through the FAQ, AUP, etc. right now. Can you speak as to their up-time and longevity as a hosting company?

Nope and nope. I admit that I was skeptical at first about e-rice.net but their customers seem to be happy so far but who knows they could go out of business by next month.

RippleHost has two things going in it's favor:
1) It's run and owned by Alan of SplashHost.com which is a reputable web hosting business
2) They use cPanel which I prefer over Ensim and Plesk

However Alan is definitely losing money with his $4.99 and $9.99 web hosting accounts, where as e-rice.net may be breaking even?

It's a gamble either way really, you're looking at BARGAIN CHEAP web hosting .. if you want the Toyota Camry of web hosting then sign up for AddAction.net but it's going to cost you $

"you get what you pay for" remember those words

Thanks again, RossMAN. I prefer cPanel myself as well, but that's the least of my worries right now. I just want to get the forum onto a mainstream structure (ie - MySQL & PHP). I checked out AddAction, but for now I need to keep this as cheap as possible because I'm going to have enough problems talking the folks into converting from Akheva (bleah). "But it's free...."

OK, I will check it out. Just looked at their page real quick and it seems like there's some good stuff included AND they actually mention uptime. Thanks, RossMAN! You da man!:D
