ripplehost ever coming back up?

I need to access really important information from my account but server1's been down for a week. I've been reading rumors about Alan shafting all his customers to work for another company but I wish he would just give us some time to obtain what we need. I hope all the customers for the new hosting company will know about his reputation and think twice about doing business with such an unethical person. I don't even care about my domain/host anymore. i just need to access my account to obtain important information. *sigh*

I don't know what people expect when they sign up with the cheapest service on the internet. You think it's that cheap because it's good?

They don't think, they're going based on price only. Although I warn them 10 million times "you get what you pay for".

Morons never listen and usually end up paying the ultimate price.

this was over 2 years ago when ripplehos was HIGHLY recommended by a lot of people here.

Just to clarify, I have never highly recommended RippleHost. People wanted cheap web hosting and I offered suggestions. Search through my old posts and you'll find:

1) "You get what you pay for". Pay for a Chevy Cavalier, don't expect Honda Civic quality and reliability. What do you expect for only $5 or $10/yr?

2) RippleHost never was and never will be a "highly recommended" web host. At least not by me.

For 10,000,000th time. Do your research and "You get what you pay for".

i just noticed today i cant cpanel in... i renewed for another yr in April too... was working then...

just want to get my files and use a old laptop of mine to host my own server instead..

Are you on ripplehost1 server?

so what's the problem?

I would run if I were you, don't expect anything coming back.

Alan, the owner, isn't very personable. Server hosting companies actually tried to buy out ripplehost (including myself, actually) and he is just about impossible to deal with. 🙁

Eric is absolutely correct.

A few weeks ago I contacted Alan Reid, owner of RippleHost.com asking if he would be interested in selling RippleHost.com? He said yes as he wanted to concentrate on his web design company. Since then two web host companies have approached him with generous offers and Alan never responded.

Alan basically doesn't give a rats ass that RH's reputation is being dragged through the mud and he has defrauded hundreds of customers. Supposedly around 800 accounts are up for renewal in a few months.

IIRC server1.ripplehost.com has been down for a few months? This is totally unacceptable for any web host, even one that charges $10/yr. This has affected possibly thousands of forgotten RippleHost customers.

Alan had the chance to make a clean break, two web hosts extended him generous offers which included taking over the current servers. So he walks away with a few hundred $$$ and nothing to worry about. If he continues to wait RippleHost won't be worthy anything.

If you're looking to switch web hosts I would first research WebHostingTalk.com.

Or here are a few suggestions:
  • Telnap.com offers 300MB/5GB for $14.97/yr with cPanel including Fantastico.
Have you ever wanted your own webmail, forums or image gallery? With Fantastico you can automatically install any of those with a few clicks of your mouse.
  • HostPC.com which recently doubled quota's starts at $29.99/yr or $4.99/mo and uses the superior DirectAdmin with Installatron control panel. HostPC is very popular here on AT and on FW.
  • 10for10.com isn't as cheap as HostPC.com but their servers and support are very good. I've been a customer for almost a month and so far the servers speed and uptime have been very impressive. 10for10.com uses DirectAdmin and servers are located at the AboveNet data center in California which also hosts Google among other Fortune 500 companies. Their sales department can be reached via AIM SimpliSales and here is their latest special (which is still available - ignore the expiration date).
  • Would you like to host a few domains with 1 web hosting account?
Take a look at SonataWeb.net which has an awesome deal on reseller accounts starting at $5.95/mo which offers 750MB/15GB host up to 30 domains and cPanel with Fantastico for all of your domains! Does this look appealing but you're not sure? Here are two WHT reviews written by Muzzleflash and NeoGen.
  • I've saved the best for the last, Idologic.com is one of my alltime favorite web hosts.
Just search WHT for Idologic or Idologic.com to see why.

I've e-mailed this thread URL to Alan Reid. Hopefully he'll read it and realize just how many people he has screwed over, unintentionally.

As I have said 10 million times before, "you get what you pay for" and this is exactly why.

I've personally emailed Alan, and never received the courtesy of a response. My offer I thought was generous, and would be a "way out" without having to bury his head in the sand, and more importantly, his customers would have had their data.

There is no way a host can survive at $10 / yr - period. Everyone begged us to pricematch - it just can't be done and remain profitable. Thats where companies like Telnap and HostPC will shine. I can't speak for Telnap (which has a great reputation) but HostPC has helpdesk staff online 24x7 - as well as 24x7 live IRC.Support costs money, good bandwidth costs money, and quality uptime costs money - thats just the bottom line. Unless you're going to pack 800-1000 customers per server, something we refuse to do, $10/yr just wont do it.

I personally wish all the RH customers well - this is all too reminiscent of Cyberwings. We've seen it before, and with the "new" breed of hosts, we'll likely see it again.

I got that impression from his "don't email me, post a message in the forums" crap he always pulled, but it seems for sure that ripplehost is dead now. Even if it went back up nobody should ever go to them again, because the same thing will probably happen. Ripplehost did work well for two years, but dropping people like this with no explanation is unacceptable, period.

Of course it was intentional. Maybe not something he set out to do as an end, but shutting crap down, this happens.

Thanks for the recos on the other servers!

That's what I'd always thought and frankly I assumed he'd eventually just raise rates, but shutting everybody off was unexpected!

Not necessarily, I never highly praised RippleHost and never will.

I only mentioned them on AT because they were DIRT CHEAP, period. There is a huge difference.
