Ripping DVD's to HD

I have a new 250 GB WD Harddrive. When i rip movies to make backups, the playback is often choppy. When i rip it to my other drive, a 80 GB one, things are fine. What could be the problem? Video skips all over now on the DVDR's

The drive is not ripping the video correctly. How do I fix this?
