Ripped off from Ebay

I got ripped off from ebay for an auction of 10 xbox units. He ended the auction early after settling on a price of $850. He had a feedback of 210 and he called me to talk about the transaction.

Well its been 6 days since he picked up my western union payment, and he hasnt called, replied to emails, etc. Turns out his address is coming up as a hotel in atlanta.

Basically i was wondering what i need to do to now. Im out $850 and thats a big chunk of change for me.

Is there any hope of seeing the money again? Someone advise of what to do, its the first time that i got ripped off on an internet sale in 6 years.

If you used western union and sent it to a hotel in atlanta, your money is as good as gone.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, western union is NOT SAFE for large purchases. Once you send the money, it's gone.

It's a lesson for you, albeit an expensive one. Never make a big purchase outside of ebay. There's no buyer protection at all.

The only thing you may be able to do is watch Ebay for him to post more auctions and try to get some info on him, but he probably used a fake/stolen account.

its only been 6 days. relax!

bwhahah im sorry you are fvucked. call the police in his area. contact western union, and contact ebay.

but i wasnt the high bidder b/c he ended the auction, so there was no high bidder. no feedback to be left etc.

You can choose to end the auction to the highest bidder, then you could have made the purchase at the price you guys discussed.

That way at least there would be some evidence of the transaction being made.

All you have now is your word against some person that might have stayed at a hotel in atlanta....which doesn't sound promising.

Sorry dude, you're screwed 🙁

Well if he ended it early, then technically the auction ended at $850 if you put the $850 bid on it THEN he ended it early. what i am tryin to say is that when you go to the webpage, are you the high bidder on the item? if you arent, then yea, technically he doesnt even have to sell it to you cause you are not the one who it shows up as the high bidder.

give us a link to the auction plz

well there is another auction on ebay for this guy.......just found it

his user id is penny-poohs.

i shoulda went with my f-ing instincts and never sent western union, and why the hell didnt i google his address............i hate myself right now. dont need to lose 850 right now, i just bought a house.

yea well i bought 50 xbox's for $2000 less than a month ago.......and i did get them.......so to me its not a freak sale.

lost 1250 via western union, somebody hacked into a good sellers account with tons of good feedback and all expensive camera equipement. I sent the money for a canon 10D and I never had anything resolved. just a BAD BAD and expensive lesson to learn.

NEVER EVER use western union for eBay

I'd email the high bidders of his current auction and alert them to the scam. Same with Ebay, tell them you ended up getting scammed. Looking at that sellers feedback, they've sold 15 items since they were an Ebay member, yet have 290 feedback. It might be a hijacked account, most of the stuff tehy bought was for kids.

ya know..this is kinda interesting. i need some ebay advice too.

something expensive was stolen from a friend of mine and it showed up on ebay. I know its my friends because theres only like 10units in the US. Police have been contacted about the matter, but i dont know if they are doing anything at all. I had the opportunity to bid on the auction, but i chickened out because Im not sure if the competing bidder is from the police department and i dont want to interfere with an investigation.

I suppose i could contact the police and try see if they'd recover the item. but thats the only idea i have.
