One of my grocery stores offers me digital coupons for free stuff once or twice a month. Usually related to what I buy there, sometimes the actual product I buy, sometimes just related. So I received a coupon for a free bag of Ruffles or Lays, up to 10 ounces. I never buy potato chips any more, but figure what the hell, I'll grab a bag of Ruffles.

Found they carried 8.5 oz bags that qualify. Not 'family' size or 'party size' by a long shot. Then I saw the regular price: $4.29

When the hell did they start charging $4.29 for a smallish bag of potato chips??? Have I been asleep for twenty years?

I know. It's crazy. I can't figure out who buys this shit. It must be the same people who buy those Larabars. I got some just to try them and I would have busted out laughing if I hadn't been so pissed. I got 4 tiny bars in these huge wrappers. I mean the bars were maybe 3" long and the wrappers were more like 5". Like that was fooling anyone. Then to add to the insult, they were in this cavernous box that was mostly empty space. I guess people really are that stupid.

Funny, I got a coupon for a free Larabar not long ago from the same store. Tried one and thought "People really buy these things?" Most of that sort of item I figure might be good if you throw it in your pocket or your day pack on a hike. I still love the original PowerBar and Clif Bar.

I guess somebody buys them or they wouldn't be that price.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the Walmart version (Great Value) of many chip flavors. The kettle chips are every bit as good as the bigger names and priced at $1.79 for an 8oz bag. I can't stand shopping at a regular Walmart but our local Walmart Neighborhood Market is an absolute pleasure.

Yeah some brands are crazy expensive. Doritos big bag is hard to get for less than $4. I've been getting low salt Lays family size for $2.50 at Wal-Mart. But the other day Savings Catcher found them at Target for $2!
