I'm trying to find out if I can rip a dvd slideshow to retrieve the jpegs that make up the video. I have lost the source picts. Prefer freeware but would consider any suggestions.

Virtualdub will allow you to save stills - in the menu, just go 'Video' --> 'Copy source frame to clipboard' and then paste into photoshop or even MS paint. I expect they will look horrible as they are supposed to be viewed on a TV and are only 640*480.
