RIP Ms O'Conner. :(

She was one of the strongest voices of the past five decades. The Lion and the Cobra blew me away. I remember playing it with both headphones and speakers at the same time to catch every tone.

Didn't she also call out sex abuse in the music and film industry and essentially got black listed for it way before me too or am I mixing her up with someone else (Rose MCgowan? I dunno, maybe I'm having what Mitch McConnel was having at that podium).

They seem to be keeping cause of death under wraps. I'm not sure what could be so terrible that they want to keep it secret.

I suppose it could be heartbreak over her son but that would just make her more human and more beloved.

I never really understood the hooha over ripping up the Pope's picture. F'ing religion is such a pain in the ass, pretty much always. Were it not for the charitable work so many religious groups do, I think I would vote for its abolition.

RIP
Was never the biggest fan of her hit, but enjoyed other songs quite a bit.

Never a fan of hers but seeing the icons of the 80's pass away is still sad...

Social media comments on her are a hilarious example of right-wing mindless hypocrisy.

Trumpers with "Save the children" posts on their page are mindlessly bleating out the hate they were programmed to have for her tearing up the picture of the Pope in protest of -- wait for it -- systemic Catholic child rape and trafficking. Oops.

And then there are the COVID-19 vaccine conspiracy nut jobs trying to claim her death to fit their irrational cult narrative.

Oh my...

Anyhow, it's sad. She was a great talent but her mental illness and the death of her son was just too much I guess.

Time to turn off social media for good, turns out it wasn't worth it.

RIP. A great talent. I especially liked Am I Not Your Girl, an album of jazz standards.

I am so polite, i always leave a day or two on these threads before i come and spoil it for everyone with the HORRIBLE TRUTH.

She was a problematic person. She had a lot of problems, i mean, a laundry list of problems; we - as consumers - have a very limited view of who Sinead oConnor was, and, while i do appreciate the sentiments attached to her public profile .. against the horrors of the IRA terrorism, against the English occupation of Ireland (you can't really have it both ways but mmk), against the abuses of the catholic church - be they sexual, or financial .. we got an image that oConnor was A FIGHTER FOR FREEDOM and justice idk, a revolutionary.

But omg, she had .. a fucking list of problems.

So i'm just going to say, she had a really good voice. Her band wrote some interesting songs and i'm happy they have had the success they deserve.
I won't look into her personal life because i dont' want to engage in a job of "all the good things she did because she's a HERO, all the bad things she did was because of SHE HAD PROBLUMS".

Looking forward to when Kid Rock dies and we can all eulogize him as such.a.great.guy.

-I mean you already wrote that much can you just expand on the problems instead of being a tease about it?

I think pretty much everyone who paid the slightest attention to Sinead O'Connor, including Sinead O'Connor, knows she was messed up. It doesn't subtract from her music.

I do not mean at all to subtract from her music. Actually, i like her music.

I am not terribly happy about the kind of person she was, even though most people would say she was on "my side", a leftist liberal.

As for her problems .. she had a list of health problems, both mental and physical; fibromyalgia. bipolar disorder. borderline personality disorder. CPTSD. Agoraphobia.
Suicide attempts https://www.mtv.com/news/3c9zl7/sinead-oconnor-ends-custody-battle-after-suicide-attempt
oConnor was allegedly the first woman in the history of Ireland to lose a custody battle to a husband.
oConnor had two marriages fail within the space or 2010-2011 ..

And, you know, profoundly religious person, that swings from "Jesus speaks to me" to "the Pope is geh" and finally "Islam should kill all unbelievers". Technically her name isn't even Sinead O'Connor, it's "Shuhada' Sadaqat".
oConnor spoke about being gay and when questioned about this she was basically like "yeah you know, in theory".

Dude, she had a fistfight with Prince.

I don't understand your point. It was/is pretty well known that she was a "problematic person" (what a weird way to approach the topic...) The world generally knew that she had a wide range of mental and physical issues that she dealt with. If anything I feel that makes her untimely demise all that much more sad - it appears that she was consumed by the ghosts that haunted her for her whole life.

Yet somehow your explanation of it makes it sound like we shouldn't mourn her or that due to her skeletons we should think less of her? Weird freaking take.

let me simplify.

1. her music was ok
2. she was not an admirable person; i wouldn't mourn her, if all i knew about her was her as a person.

I'm sorry that you find it weird that i wouldn't mourn someone i dont respect. We've been through this before, i don't mourn people *just because they were a human*, i find that to be hypocrisy. I only mourn people who i feel affection towards.
