I tried to join SA years ago but the mods were just vicious to newbies so I bailed.

every other line in that article is "reported by...reported by...reported by."

....who is actually generating the news these days? Does anyone actually work? I mean, that's Newsweek FFS. Say what you will about their shady history, but they were, at least, a legitimate weekly journal. Are they now staffed by barely-literate jelly-donut swilling neckbeards whose only life skill is trawling the internet for other peoples' information to aggregate into "stories" that they have no business stamping their name on?

(not just calling out Newsweek, but that style is about 80% of what gets passed as an article on the internet these days)

I haven't run into that issue personally but I try to keep to established (and reputable) news outlets. But I tend to use google or yahoo news and I have to say that even those have started to infiltrated by what I would consider questionable sources. Fortunately, it only takes a couple of clicks to exorcise those from your feed. But the mere fact that they're showing up is at the very least, concerning.

SA gets a bad rap from time to time but it is fairly easy going. Usual caveats apply, like don't engage in the politics subforum if you value your health but that goes for any other forum. Couple other areas to avoid that are quite obvious the moment you step into them and think, eh, not for me.

Heck I'm on it everyday and I didn't even realize lowtax died until I saw it another site and thought..."huh, waddya know."

I'm just old school I guess and like to think I will die clutching old standard type forums with my cold hands.
