One of my favourite actors. He had an amazing, calm diction with a deep, elegant voice that was highlighted in the animated film L'Homme Qui Plantait Des Arbres. My favourite film of his remains Le Vieux Fusil, a poignant tale of revenge on which a man sees his wife (played by Romy Schneider) and daughter killed by the SS with a flame-thrower just before their village is liberated. Coming too late to save them, he hides within his castle and uses secret passages to kill the SS soldiers one by one and their commanding officer last of all, with a flame-thrower.
Mr. Noiret was also great in Les Ripoux, Cinema Paradiso, Il Postino, and Uranus. He will be missed. 🙁
