your MP3s... For the songs you own: do you rip em yourself, or download them from places like Napster?

I find it faster to just d/l them

The only advantage to ripping is you can organize whole LP's a lot better. Just kick it off, go take a dump or something, come back and it is finished...with all the names/titles made up for you.

I have over 600(original) Cd's and 1000+ mp3's and I thik it is just faster( if u have high speed connection) to download if u are going to use them on your PC or portable, though you have to worry about the condition of the MP3 i.e. complete or did the person who ripped it have the cd skip...etc I have DSL and cable in the past and downloading is mostly just an afterthought

I do a little of both. Sometimes the mp3s I download aren't encoded properly, so if I own the cd I'll do it myself. Othertimes, I just have to keep downloaded different versions of the same song until I get one that sounds good.

Depends on if you want the whole album (easier to just rip) on your drive or just 1 or 2 songs in order to make a mix (easier to just D/L, especially on fast conn.).

I'm on a 56k and I listen to mainly classical music, so I'm really sensitive to the encoding.

Most of the stuff I DL from Napster has been done with crappy software like Xing that uses a low pass frickin filter or something, because it just kills classical music. Plus the snaps and pops in many of the tracks I DL.

Easier to rip my own CDs and have full control over the quality. Napster is good for previewing stuff that I don't have though. Then I just go buy the CD and rip away!
