rip CD -> MP3

Rip with Exact Audio Copy http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

Then find yourself a copy of LAME and encode with the preset --alt-preset extreme

You can make EAC do the encoding, I prefer the razorlame frontend myself since I usually rip rip rip and then queue up everything to encode in one lump.

::thumbs up:: EAC rocks. I also used AudioCatalyst to rip and encode MP3s for a while. Great program.

Except audiocatalyst uses Xing, right? Xing blows :|

Whatever program you use, make sure that program uses the LAME encoder to do the encoding.

Programs that use LAME are Exact Audio Copy and CDex. I prefer CDex myself. The program is just the nice, shiny interface, the only thing that truly counts is the encoder. Make sure you use LAME, everything else is just crap.

And make sure you encode to at least 192k. That's close to CD quality. Anything less is just not CD quality sound.
