He was recently in the Hobbit movies, right? Haven't seen the second one, so no idea if his character is supposed to still be alive for whatever third they make.

No. His last role was in Snow White and the Huntsmen. He retired after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

that's right - that's where I remember seeing him. I knew he was some sort of dwarf/hobbit/tiny person in one of those movies.
