RIP Blue Rockhopper *updated* - Pic of Epic

Last night I dropped off my Rockhopper at the bike shop.

I'd always wanted a Rockhopper ever since I was a kid .... and I rode that beast into the ground in almost exactly 6 months. 877 miles and a few scars later, the frame is slightly cracked in one spot, all the components are almost worn out, I've taco'd 3 rims, a fork, and countless other odds and ends. It was time.

Today they're going to move my "mammoth fat" rims, pedals and computer over to the new pimp ride. A 2004 Specialized Epic. *drool*

Wish me luck, I may never stop riding.

Don't they usually warranty frames from that sort of thing? Sometimes hard to get them to pay up, but, if you bought it new and it cracked--it's an option I think. Even if you still want the new frame, warranty the old one and resell it maybe. If you don't the bikeshop might.

Yeah. Specialized is good about frame warranties. They would send me Rockhopper Comp frame. But as you and I may well know, it's the same exact frame. Plus, the shop would have to charge me to "move" all my components, since they only send a frame, not a whole bike.

I've basically been looking for an excuse (or the mounds of cash) to get a new bike since I've gotten into it so much. 877 miles in 6 months is about 36 miles a week. So realistically I'm averaging 50 a week, since I didn't ride THAT much the first few months.

Anyways ... I'm getting a discount because of all the swapping ... it's a pretty fair deal, I know about what he's paying for the bikes, and the discount works out by my math ...

I'm so stoked.

What he said. EBay it to someone and get $250 to $300 or so for it. Use the money to buy new parts.

The Epic is a sweet ride. It has a hardtail feeling but saves your back and butt on rocky terrain. The 'Brain' shock works well.
I've tried it on the trails on one of the demo days Specialized has out here.
Have fun and ride hard!
😀

Oh man. It was a thing of beauty. Worth every penny!

It felt really rigid on small bumps/roots and uphills, I think the shock may have activated, but I just didn't realize because it was so subtle. I'll check on my next ride. There's a rubber ring you can move and when the shock compresses it leaves the ring at the maximum compression point.

I weigh about 250 and the guys at the shop set the bike up awesome. We'll need to play with it a little ... but it was damn fine for a first shot.

The front shock was a dream. It's definitely a high-level shock. Retails for $600 alone.

It was amazing coming off jumps, it just soaked up and you could definitely feel the benefits of full suspension ... and at the same time ... no bobbing ... awesome cornering and acceleration, etc etc ... I don't feel like a dumbass for forking over an insane amount of money.

whoa.

People never understand nice bikes until they ride one. 🙂

Even my i-Drive 6.0 is enough to sell most people on good quality bikes, & yours far surpasses mine.
