Ayrton Who?

j/k. Not Nascar...

I didn't watch that race at the time. At least four very serious accidents, 2 dead, in a single weekend. I didn't even know another guy had died, and I used to watch every single race, from 1972 on.

i saw the race the otherday where he lost his life

very sad,
that wekeend was tragic, another driver got killed in qualifying/practice

He was coming around a curve and simply kept going straight and hit a wall almost head on. The crash was attributed to too much air under his vehicle, causing him to not be able to steer.

Senna lost his life a few laps into the race, Ratzenberger died during Saturday practice (or qualifying) when one of the wings broke off his car sending him head on into a barrier at speed and Barrichello was seriously injured when his car lept the curb and he went airborn into a catch fence at around 180 mph. Speed channel had the race and the events leading up to the race on F1 Decades about 3 weeks ago. It is still on my Tivo. I could barely watch it. I certainly couldn't do it with a dry eye.

I still find it hard to believe that they raced with no pit lane speed limits and did this until mid-way through the 1994 season.

Senna was and always will be the best though.

He was driving through a left hand bend on the fastest part of the old Imola circuit in Italy called Tamborello curve, drivers routinely took this turn flat out in top gear without lifting the throttle. He started to turn in but then the car went straight off into a solid barrier at over 180mph. A piece of the right front suspension pierced his helmet and ended his life.
